Review: A Morning Escape to Muir Beach
Nestled just a short drive north of San Francisco, Muir Beach offers a peaceful coastal retreat, and visiting on a lazy Thursday morning makes it even more magical. Far from the crowds, this hidden gem is perfect for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty.
Setting and Atmosphere
The beach is small but picturesque, surrounded by rolling hills and rugged cliffs. The morning fog lent a mystical ambiance, with the sound of waves providing a soothing soundtrack. The soft golden sand and the gentle breeze made it ideal for a quiet walk or simply sitting and soaking in the view.
Activities
On a calm Thursday morning, the beach was nearly deserted, offering plenty of space for reflection or leisurely exploration. A short trail led to stunning vantage points overlooking the Pacific, while tide pools revealed fascinating marine life. For dog lovers, Muir Beach is a haven, with several well-behaved pups enjoying the sand alongside their owners.
Accessibility and Amenities
While the beach is easy to access, parking is limited, so arriving early is a good idea. Basic amenities like restrooms are available, but there are no concessions, so packing snacks and drinks is essential. The nearby Pelican Inn, a charming English-style pub, is a great spot for a post-beach bite or a refreshing drink.
Conclusion
Muir Beach on a quiet Thursday morning is a perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you’re seeking solitude, a scenic stroll, or a moment to connect with nature, this serene coastal spot delivers. It’s a must-visit for locals and travelers looking to experience the Bay Area’s...
Read morePretty beautiful beach except one gripe! IT IS SUPER COLD! There will be a lot of cold weather and overcast so you will have to constantly check the weather if you want a sunny day. It's a nice beach for bonfires or hanging out but definitely not to swim unless your hobby is getting hypothermia. There are also trails that give you the view of the ocean from high above. Here is a nice little tip! After you cross the boardwalk, take a right and stay by the hill and keep walking. Pretty soon you will see the ocean, from here if you look on the hill there should be foot paths going all the way up. Follow this path and keep going up and soon you will get to the top of the hill. Make sure stay to your right as much as you can. Then you will see a walkway that leads down to the trail. It's pretty awesome and it gives you a 360 degree view of the surrounding area! If the sky is clear, it will have a beautiful sunset!!! Don't forget to bring warm...
Read moreMy 11 year old hasn’t seen an ocean since she was maybe 2 years old. This was exciting for her. She got lots of sand all on her clothing and shoes. She got her pants soaking wet because like typical 11 year olds, she didn’t believe me or listen when I told her the waves make those ninja moves and come up super high onto the beach every now and then. So she was knee high in a wave for a few seconds and then she was Sandy, cold and wet.
Also typical of 11 year olds, this didn’t phase her and she continued to not listen and ignore me as she continued to get wet and Sandy. The trip to the beach was a success I would say and she thoroughly enjoyed herself.
We found a lost and abandoned white sock to put some shells in that she found then when I got home I discovered that in fair turn around the beach had claimed one of her own wet socks to replace the one we took from It. Well played beach,...
