AMC CLASSIC Mattoon 10 — Local services in Mattoon

We visit this theater often. The staff is typically friendly and polite. I felt compelled to leave a review today because of something that happened at the concession stand. The lady in front of my was walking with a cane and was attending the movie alone. She ordered popcorn and a drink and proceeded to the machine to fill her cup. The man behind the counter let the other know that he was going to run and help that lady get her purchases to her seat. I commented on how thoughtful this gesture was. I'm not certain if this is a company policy or something this young man thought to do on his own - either way 5* to you.

The only reason for my 4* rating is the bathrooms are just terrible lately. This is not the fault of the staff, but the owner. Several are closed because they are broken and there is a raw sewage smell in there every time we have been in the past few months.

As many have commented the price for a drink ($6) and the price of a popcorn is 'expensive'. What you must remember is the concession stand is where they make their money. Many movies (before 4pm) are only $3.99 a ticket. This allows more people to see a movie at the theater. You aren't required to purchase anything from the concession stand. Seriously the most unpleasant visit I have ever had. I will never be returning to Mattoon AMC ever again. I tried to get more information on signing up for their rewards since you can't buy anything unless you are. Absolutely no one would give me the time of day, including the manager, so I said forget and paid for our tickets. Since we weren't signed up for rewards a drink and popcorn would cost $16 instead of $6 so we just went to the theater. The theater smelled ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING and there was trash everywhere. I'm assuming no one cleaned between movies but considering it was a Tuesday afternoon my guess is that no one cleaned it. Our clothes wreaked after sitting in the seats through the movie and we had to go home and changed before continuing our day. If I could rate zero...

Went to the AMC Showplace Mattoon tonight to see Money Monster. Bought tickets, went to buy popcorn and soda. The guy behind the counter talked me into buying the large combo, said I could get free refills. Told him I probably couldn't finish the one I had. He said, come before you leave, get a refill and take it home. Went into the theater where my movie was going to be played. My husband and I started eating popcorn, 5 minutes later, fire alarm goes off. We are told we have to leave and go to the parking lot. The popcorn machine caught fire and was in the parking lot. We were told to leave, bring back tickets another day and see our movie. I asked about our large popcorn and soda. We're told we will have to buy it again when we come back!!!! Not going to happen. That stuff is expensive. Not happy...
