If you're planning to visit the Maui Gold Pineapple Plantation, you need to book a pineapple tour in advance because you can't explore the fields on your own. However, you can buy Maui Gold pineapples directly from the plantation without a tour.
The parking lot is made of dirt and grass and there’s plenty of space right in front of the Maui Pineapple Tour and Hali’imaile Distilling Co.
Arrive 15 minutes early to check in, fill out your waiver, use the restroom, and maybe visit their cute gift shop. You can also shop after your tour, where you'll find the Hali’imaile Distilling Company tasting area.
The pineapple tour lasts about 1.5 hours. You'll ride in an air-conditioned bus through the pineapple fields, stopping several times to learn about how pineapples grow. You'll also visit the pineapple processing factory to see how they pack the pineapples for shipping.
The tour wraps up at the gift shop, where you can buy more pineapples or pineapple-related products. Don’t miss the pineapple stand on the property selling delicious pineapple drinks, soft serve, and freshly cut Maui Gold pineapples.
Our guide, Cliff, was really enthusiastic and knowledgeable, making it the best Maui pineapple tour. We even tasted pineapples picked that morning right in the field!
At the end of the tour, you get a freshly picked Maui Gold pineapple in an airport-approved box, ready to take home on the plane. They usually pack two pineapples per box, but single pineapple boxes are available too.
Kids must be at least 3 years old to join the tour. No exceptions.
The weather can get hot, especially for afternoon tours, so dress appropriately. We suggest wearing shoes and socks as the ground is uneven and covered with fallen pineapple parts. Consider a hat and sunscreen for protection against the strong sun.
This tour is a fantastic way to learn about pineapple farming in a fun setting, and it's a great activity for kids. They'll be amazed to learn that pineapples don't grow on trees and will love tasting the freshest pineapple...
Read moreOne of only 2 pineapple farms left on the Islands of Hawaii. This one (Maui Gold) is on Maui and Dole is on another island. Did you know the fresh pineapple you eat at home is probably not from Hawaii (unless you live in Hawaii or have shipped from Hawaii)? Most likely from Phillipines, or Thailand or other locations that are not Hawaii or US based. I never would have guessed that. The pineapple you buy in stores from Phillipines, Thailand, etc is picked weeks before it is fully ripened to ship to locations and therefore is not as fresh and good as one picked at peek freshness from the fields in Hawaii. If it's fresh you can eat the core and it's not hard and inedible. I had no clue! One would never guess how much goes into running a pineapple farm. It is really a spectacular story. At least for Maui Gold Pineapple Company it is. The workers work an 8 hour shift and have worked on the farm for years and past generations have worked on the farm as well. You'd think that you'd have to have 100's of workers to harvest the pineapple but you don't. All together there are less than 50 ppl who work here. That includes the ones who work the gift shop, give the tours and harvest the pineapple. There are about 20 that work the 756 acre pineapple field. They pick twice a week and pick thousands of pounds a day. It takes about 18 months to get a pineapple from start to finish and from each plant they get 3 harvest. It is a beautiful process. I've told you enough to pique your interest but go and let them tell you the full story. Kennedy was an excellent tour guide and the treat at the end is an added bonus....
Read moreOn our last day in Maui, my husband and I had some time before our flight, so we decided to take the Maui Pineapple Farm Tour. While the price initially seemed a bit steep, we were drawn in by the fact that each ticket included a TSA-ready boxed pineapple to take home. We arrived early and grabbed lunch at the restaurant next to the pineapple store, as recommended by the staff member who checked us in. We shared a buttermilk chicken sandwich and pineapple upside-down cake à la mode—and wow, were we in for a treat! The sandwich was perfectly crispy with juicy, flavorful chicken, topped with a tangy coleslaw that complemented it beautifully. I was so impressed I had to ask how they made it! Then came the pineapple upside-down cake with pineapple ice cream, which was absolutely fabulous. Despite the lunch rush, the staff remained attentive and friendly throughout our meal. The tour itself exceeded our expectations. Our driver was engaging and knowledgeable, taking us through the processing area before heading out to the pineapple fields. He taught us how to properly cut a pineapple and what to look for when selecting one—turns out, nearly everything I thought I knew about picking pineapples was wrong! I learned about evaluating color, weight, and where to smell the fruit to ensure it's perfectly ripe. The highlight was tasting the Maui Gold pineapple fresh from the field. I can honestly say it was the most flavorful pineapple I've ever had in my life! I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Maui. It was educational, delicious, and genuinely fun. We'd absolutely...
