Future Foods — Local services in Mechanic Falls

EDIT (6/10/25): Unfortunately, a little while ago Future Foods changed ownership and after that happened it QUICKLY went downhill!!! Before is was great as you can see from my original review below, but now I wouldn't recommend it to anyone...EVER... if anything I would specifically warn people away from it! Most of the shelves and coolers are just completely empty now. The few products that are there are complete crap, damaged, or just expired. They even have a whole shelf where they put a ton of outdated products and they take a dollar or two off the original price and say they're selling these items at a discount because they're expired. I'm sorry but last I checked grocery stores usually remove expired products from their shelves and DON'T try to sell people outdated crap! And since they have now jacked the prices on anything they sell to an absolutely RIDICULOUSLY high amount, even after the 1 or 2 dollars that they have taken off these expired items they are still far more expensive than the same product NOT expired at any other store! When you walk in the store it is literally like a ghost town. You never see any employees at all throughout the entire store. I have legit walked in there and actually thought that there was no one there and the employees had just left. They dont even have anyone standing at the registers at all, so if you have any questions or need any help then you're pretty much outta luck. You seriously don't see a single soul until you get to the register and have finished putting all your stuff on the belt, and only then does the single employee that has been sitting in the little back office finally come out to check you out. Most of the employees don't speak ANY English at all and the ONE employee I have ever seen that does speak English you can't understand a single word they are saying anyways. I had to ask 5 or 6 times for them to repeat what they were saying to figure out what they said to me and even then I'm pretty sure I still got it completely wrong because it didn't make any sense and when I answered them they looked at me like that was an extremely ODD thing to say in response to what they were saying. I am not racist in any way shape or form and I have absolutely NOTHING against anyone that doesn't speak English or just doesn't speak it very well... but when you're working directly with customers like that if you don't speak any English or don't speak it very well yet then it would probably be a good idea to at least have another person there as well that does speak clear English and can help or translate or something. So I no longer shop at Future Foods anymore, which is pretty unfortunate because it is just right on the other side of the parking lot from our house so it used to be very convenient especially when I needed something last minute or I was making something and realized I was out of or forgot something I needed for it. But now it isn't a place I would even try as a last resort.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Their prices are good, their selection is always stocked (and all faced wonderfully), the selection is very diverse and always fresh, and the ABSOLUTE BEST thing at Future Foods is all of their GREAT employees that would all go above and beyond for any customer that walks through their door! Seriously, the employees here are all so amazing, friendly, caring, helpful, and all go above and beyond their job description and duties to provide extremely high quality customer service on a daily basis! They all deserve to be recognized and awarded for their dedication to their jobs, but even more for their dedication to each customer walking in those doors no matter who it is, what they look like, how they act, or ANYTHING else! Truly a group of tippy-top-notch employees they have their and they should all be proud of one another and the high quality service they all provide!!!! Thank you to all of you that work at Future Foods that provide such great customer service without fail with every visit! You are all truly wonderful...

I used to love going here and I still do go here to try and support my local community. I have a couple of times now gotten food that was out of date and bad. The store has recently been took over by a new owners and this is a ongoing trend.. I hate to say it. I still go here to get drinks and snacks and things of that nature but I have to watch anything else in there that might be perishable. Check the dates on items if you go there. Update. After leaving this review I was in there again today and the lady in front of me had nothing but expired yogurt after she checked the date. She went back to the yogurt section to see if there were any good ones and in fact all of them were expired. It's...

First of all this isn't actually the southenmost point but.....you can't get to that point because there it is off limits (military base)

My wife and I grew up in Northern Maine,...so the complete opposite end of the route. So while in the Keys we figured we'd better say that we had been to the far southern end (even if it isn't the furthest point).

It is ridiculous that there is a line to take a selfie by this thing. We just did a selfie out in the street with it and other people in the background. Took like 5 seconds...
