All "not fast" skaters are forced to go to the middle during an "All skate". About every 10 minutes it is announced for slower skaters (not inexperienced, but slower) to move to the center. Management would rather accommodate the 15% of the skaters, (four fast skaters plus a skate guard) that whiz in and out of people "shouting move over" or "get out of the way". Instead the fast skaters should be told to slow down. Combining Fast skate with an All skate is very risky and dangerous and flat out not fun. Also, why is the skategaurd one of the skaters whizzing in and out and not doing his job? To allow this recklessness is going to cause somebody to get hurt. People were enjoying themselves, holding hands and just having fun but this rule forced people to leave. The skate guard was ushering skaters over to the center. I heard comments "why are they making us move over?" I saw others put their arms to their side and held their breath as the fast skaters whizzed by and others left after only being there for 30 min. New skaters can't hold on to the wall and the worst part, when the inexperienced skaters have to get on and off they now have to cross all the traffic to get to the center. How do inexperienced skaters navigate through the fast and experienced skaters to get to the middle? Now 85% of the people are crowded in the middle and skate aids are projectiles. After I spoke to the fast skaters and asked them to be respectful and watch the comments they were making to people, they complained to the skate guard. They devised a plan to get everybody off the floor so they can go fast but they made a mistake and called it a "shuffle" dance instead of a "fast skate". When they were telling people to get off, it was rather meanly done. "If you don't know what a shuffle skate is, get off the floor NOW". After observing the people that stayed on, even some going slow, I was like I can do that:dance, cross, etc, but oops they weren't expecting me to get on. As I was slowing down to get off I was told I wasn't allowed to be on the floor since I was going slow. I was getting off so yeah I slowed down. If they called it a "fast skate" then I wouldn't have gotten on. After speaking to the manager, I later found out it was because I had rentals on with stoppers. LOL How does that make sense? It doesn't make sense that if I had my own skates and went slow and didn't technically do the shuffle I could stay on? The manager just tried to defuse the situation and said "we don't have a problem here, you can skate anyway you want". That doesn't make sense to kiss my butt - fix the underlying issue instead. I didn't want special treatment, I wanted the rink to be safe and fair for all. Resolution: slow the fast skaters down and at times have a fast skaters only song. At the new Vero Beach skate land they have a brand new floor which will be my new home for skating, which I am sure the workers at Galaxy are glad to hear I will not be back so they can get away treating skaters as if they are a burden. Vero Beach has taped off a section on the outside specifically for inexperienced skaters. They can hold on to the wall and get on and get off easily without interrupting the people trying to skate. Now that makes sense. I do want to say Thank you to the gentleman ensuring I enjoyed my skate that night and encouraged me to come back, but sorry don't like being treated...
Read moreOk I'm gonna be honest.... my 7 and 8 year old love the skating, the music is good, the staff is nice too, the refills of drinks is a good choice, and thank god the bathrooms were clean... but for the parents waiting on the sidelines, here are our issues:
Im sorry, the truth hurts, but please take it constructivly. I would personally pay a higher price if it meant they could eventually gain enough funds leading to resolving these issues. This rink is one of the last local places in Brevard to skate, and I really feel like if this place doesn't get it together they will lose business and have to close their doors or get shut down bc it becomes a health and safety concern for the kids. Do more community events, a fundraiser to better the rink, reach out to other local brevard schools for spirit nights. Rink games, races, tricks, talents... doesn't have to be for cash... could be local recognition, their photo featured on ur web page or hanging on a wall in the rink, free admission passes, discounts, or make a part zone an MVP area for the winners that month. I mean.... this place could be so much better. I pray 🙏...
Read moreWould I recommend this place, yes absolutely. The place does need work, lots of lights out, 1 speaker on the floor is totally out anouther speaker pointing away from the floor. With that being said music is not that loud when on the floor. Floor could use some attention. The thing that makes this place is the staff and management. They are always friendly, no attitudes they care about there guests. Not only the staff but the people that do skate here regularly are very friendly and caring about others on the floor. I have seen many people stop skating just to help a little one back up who has fallen and check to make sure they are alright. They watch out for others, that in my book is why I do go here, it's the people and staff that make this place what it is, not the condition of the rink. Far as the food well that has alot of work to be done. Example a pizza is only a little round microwave pizza for $5.00 that you buy at the grocery store. Most of the food is microwave food, I make sure everyone eats before going here the food is not worth the price. If the place would just invest some money back into the business it would be an awesome place to skate. The rink floor is concrete and is very large in size which makes it a better experience to be able to skate without bumping into others or them bumping into you. Wish they would just take more pride in there business then letting the place run...
