I was never going to write a review, but after having a friend visit and have the same experience as me, I figured it was time.
I had high hopes for Salon Jade given their focus on education and their polished social media presence, but my experience was deeply disappointing. Before my appointment, I called ahead to confirm they had experience with my hair type as a mixed-race woman with curly hair. They assured me they could handle it, which gave me the confidence to book. I also arrived early for my appointment, and the stylist was able to take me right away, which was a positive start. However, things quickly went downhill during the color process.
As the color developed, I noticed the stylist had a concerned expression, which made me uneasy. She even used a blow dryer to try to lift the colorāa technique I know is inappropriate for the volume of developer being used. My mother is a hairstylist, so I was immediately alarmed, but I decided to trust the stylist because of the salonās reputation. At the sink, she was unusually quiet while washing my hair. Then, as she attempted to brush through it, her brush actually broke. This was baffling to me because my hair is not difficult to detangle. I even offered to help, but she insisted she had it under control.
When we returned to the chair, the stylist turned me away from the mirror to blow dry and straighten my hair. My hair is naturally easy to straighten, but when she turned me back around, it was poofy and unevenāfar from smooth and sleek. I was already feeling disheartened, but I hoped the haircut would salvage things. Unfortunately, the simple face-framing layers and long layers in the back that I requested were poorly executed. I left the salon looking and feeling like a poodle, but I didnāt complain because I didnāt want to make her feel bad. I thought I could just fix it at home.
Over the next few weeks, things got worse. Huge clumps of hair began falling out, and I realized that all the blonde from the balayage was completely fried. My hair had been damaged beyond repair, likely from the blow dryer used during the coloring process. I eventually went to a new stylist at a different salon, who confirmed the damage and worked to restore what was left of my hair. She told me the blonde had been completely destroyed and that the blow dryer was likely the culprit.
To make matters worse, I later learned from a friend who frequents Salon Jade that the salonās social media posts and even some of their staff suggest they aim to attract a specific type of clientele, making jokes about certain styles (like bobs) and excluding diverse hair types. As a mixed-race woman with curly hair, this left a bad taste in my mouth. It explained a lot about why I felt out of place and unsupported during my visit.
I understand Salon Jade might respond by saying I could have come back to have the issues addressed, but frankly, I didnāt trust them to touch my hair again. The damage was already done, and the experience was traumatic enough. For anyone considering Salon Jade, especially those with curly or textured hair, I urge you to think twice. Iāve since found a stylist who truly understands and cares for my hair, and I could not be happier...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSalon Jade is the best salon Iāve ever known. Iāve lived in three different states and have frequented many different salons in the last 20 plus years, and Salon Jade stands head and shoulders above the rest for many reasons.
The services and quality of work are exceptional, and the prices are extremely fair (pricing is actually on the low side!! Ssshhhh!). Whether youāre looking for a cut, blow-out, color, or hair extensions, you will leave feeling beautiful and your expectations not only met but exceeded by their wonderful artists. Heidi is an absolute leader and boss when it comes to color and hair extensions; the pro hair and makeup artist I hired to do my wedding day look commented on how great my extensions looked, and he worked in NYC doing hair and makeup for fashion shows, photo shoots, and celebrities. I can attest they do an incredible job with menās cuts, too, as my husband started coming to Jade for his cuts after having sub-optimal results at a different salon. Every single stylist Iāve gotten to work with is talented, professional, kind, and committed to excellence in her/his/their craft. Iāve been able to work with Emily, Heidi, Tessa, and Peyton, and I cannot say enough great things about each of them and the work they do.
Most importantly, the vibe of Salon Jade is absolutely phenomenal. Thereās truly something special and rather magical happening there. Heidi has cultivated a culture at Salon Jade of inclusivity, positivity, honesty, kindness, and fun; you are free to be who you are without judgement there, and it is clear the stylists have a family-like vibe amongst them and that they treat each other and everyone they meet with kindness and respect. I always leave Salon Jade feeling not only beautiful, but also happy, heard, and warm and fuzzy.
Salon Jade is the type of business that makes the world a better place. And, my hair has never looked better. Weāve just moved back home to Colorado and in addition to our friends and family still in Wisconsin, Salon Jade is one of the things Iāll miss most about Milwaukee! I cannot recommend this salon highly enough. Head over to Salon Jade if you want to look AND feel your most beautifulā¦it is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI paid over $200 for a full highlight to gradually go from black to brown and ended up with an over-bleached streak right in front of my face with the rest of the brown barely dispersed. I knew something was wrong when she washed my hair twice and kept adding toner but she insisted the color turned out great. The entire ordeal took almost four hours and due to a highly demanding job, I could not sacrifice another four hours to immediately return so literally corrected my hair color with mascara each day! At my next appointment I showed what happened hoping for an apology and effort to make it right but was charged to correct the error. At first she insisted I never previously booked a full highlight despite having paid for one, and that she didnāt have time to do one now, but when I said I may as well just forget the whole thing, get a refund from the first time, and go elsewhere she agreed to give me a full highlight and only charge me $175 for a partial. Since I was about to leave for vacation, I agreed but could yet again see the foil was not dispersed throughout my hair and this time the color ended up too dark. When the cashier asked how everything was, I explained why I wasnāt happy and she faulted me for not contacting them immediately after my first appointment. As a businessperson, I understand mistakes happen but itās the way theyāre addressed that tell you a lot, and unfortunately this situation left a lot...
