Giant Eagle Supermarket — Local services in Mentor-on-the-Lake

I would not recommend party salads from here. The food from the deli was great - mini croissants and cheese and fruit tray. However, the salads from the prepared foods department were not acceptable. Both the green salad and broccoli salads and the veggie tray had to be reworked before I could serve them. There were whole lettuce leaves, giant fist sized broccoli that all had to be cut down to serving size. The cucumbers were halved and cut in quarters (like potato wedges) and the celery wasn’t cut at all.

There were no condiments for the sandwiches and no serving utensils. I went to a dollar store to buy serving spoons.

I ordered food so I wouldn’t have to make it myself and I spent a lot of time fixing what Giant Eagle sold me.

Overall this was very disappointing, not what I expect from Giant Eagle and I will not order from here again...

I recently rated 5 stars but I am changing this because of the meat department. They are absolutely horrible. There can be 10 people back there and not one person will acknowledge you. I have stood there for 15 minutes or more on numerous occasions. I understand if they are in the middle of cutting something, but when they look up and then continue on and don't even say "hang on, someone will help you in a minute", then they're just being rude. It has been getting worse recently and I have walked away and left to go to Heinen's for my meat and groceries. And once they do finally decide to wait on you, it's like it is a huge inconvenience to them. They have terrible attitudes and it's obvious the department needs to be taught better customer service skills. It's a shame because every other department is so helpful...

It's an interesting store. We shop here occasionally when visiting relatives here. If you are from other parts of the country with regular grocery stores you will be disappointed. The store is much smaller than a conventional grocery store and feels more like a large drug store with an odd liquor store attached to it. Their prices are higher than a grocery store putting it more like a big convenience store. They have very little in the way of a meat department with sad thin odd cuts of steaks. Not sure if it's just this store but I have found that all stores here are small and have little selection of meat. Stores here have the largest selection of prepped meals and a massive selection of frozen meals and pizzas the likes of which God has never seen.
