Went there with a group of 20 golfers. Golf course views were awesome. Cool place to play atleast once to say you did. But the actual experience is very lackluster for what you pay for it. If you’ve ever played Tobacco Road in SC it’s kind of like that except everything Tobacco does right with all the little things, Wolf Creek gets wrong in a big way.

Golf carts that can barely make it up and down the hills and cliffs. I’m talking carts that you’d be more likely to find at a $40 pitch and putt. No GPS on the carts at the one course on the planet that probably needs them the most? WILD! Are they broke or just that cheap??

Nothing longer than irons on the driving range. On a $300 track?

Ranger to us: go putt on the putting green by the range it’s the only green that’s like the course and is going to break like nothing you’ve ever seen before. (Newsflash, greens were slowest of all 4 courses we played in the St George area by a mile, and break wasn’t an issue). Couple of us wondered if they skipped mowing that day. Literal small town muni green speeds.

One of the rangers berated a player in my group for hitting a ball maybe 4 yards (maybe!) into the waste area on a hole. He then doubled down and yelled at his cartner saying “what are you looking at”. The cartner who literally said nothing in response. In this particular group I think our highest handicap was a 6with the other 3 guys under a 4. So it’s not like we were clueless and doing something obnoxious. Clearly he had a swing as his feet were literally almost still on the fairway. Very harmless but apparently not to mr ranger.

Find out after the round another one of our groups that has been waiting all day. Not on us but on whoever went before us as all 5 of our groups were insanely slow and had to wait all day as the course was jammed up from the start. Like pushing 6 hours slow….anyways another ranger decided to blame the middle group of our 5 groups for this. He told them they had to skip the next par 5. Again all of us waited all day and somehow now it’s our fault and a group had to skip a hole because of it? In the middle of our Ryder cup that we flew across the country to come play here for? They ended up telling him sure to make him go away and drove to 100 yards and played from the middle of the fairway to atleast play the hole to not screw up our entire tournament.

Between our 20 guys I would guesstimate that we spent upwards of 6k at Wolf Creek that day. And we’re not only treated horribly by the rangers, but the overall experience was very disappointing. Again cool course, maybe have to go play it once to say you did and snap a few pictures, but that’s about it.

Next time I’m in St George I’ll be heading to Sand Hollow or Copper Rock with my time and $. Those places couldn’t of been more opposite from how poorly we were treated...

Views and layout were unmatched, most people already know that. July grass conditions were sort of rough, but understandable given extreme heat. This is all could be relative to July, but the greens were inconsistent - overall not cut well. Some chewed up, other weeds growing on them. They for sure were not running that true. And, the hole cuts were "crowded" meaning grass was crowding the hole - sadly a tale tell sign of a lower quality course :/ We should be grateful there is course that can be irrigated in the deep desert, or that it is allowed - but the grass conditions seemed like a lack of good maintenance rather than lack of water/desert conditions. To that point, the bunkers were spotty, some wet (ok normal), some super thin, some gravely. Some tee boxes were also laughable for how bad of shape they were in.

The service was helpful and informative - wet eucalyptus towels on 18th green really was a nice touch.

But in addition to the greens, not being able to play the tips, as well as tee box yardage confusion sort of dampened the quality. A strange rule to not have tip tee play. I can somewhat see their point for pace of play but for a low single dig handicap golfer (flex), playing 5,700 to 6,100 yards at 1,650 feet was sort of silly. Some tees were tipped out, which also makes for a messy handicap differential. Being able to drive the green for up to five (nearly 6) par 4's was definitely fun for the thrill/challenge but you add that with 4 very short par 5's the course was a bit one-dimensional shot making wise. Two of us in our group were doing it rather comfortably (soft flex). How about you pay $25 more each to play tips, or can play but if you're holding up play you have to move up.

It was also very confusing looking at distances on a lot of holes because you aren't sure what tee boxes the blues were hitting from. We bought a yardage book beforehand and were relying on that to gauge distances on trickier tee shots. I lost 3 balls personally off the tee because we thought it was much longer than it was and instead parked it into the desert. I have an elevation and altitude adjusted range finder but to do that on every tee box would've been a pain. This was more so of a thing on slight doglegs, seeing how far a bunker was and aiming for it and instead having it go 40 yards over because we had the wrong tees.

All of this is to say there needed to be clarity on which boxes were which. "Are we on usual tips tee box?" "Are these the usual blues?" This confusion definitely slowed down the pace of play so something for management to consider if they're so concerned with that. What they should do is put blue, gold etc. on the tee yardage plates.

I'd be back only if it's off season and sub $150. Anything above that after you've seen the course before...

My golf group of 8 ventured out to play Wolf Creek on 5/1/25. The mid-week rate was $360. To be honest, I expected a little better of an overall experience. The golf shop is decent and has enough souvenirs and neccessities, and you get $15 credit in the shop if you need to buy something. (A hat is $60) The "clubhouse" is underwhelming and resembles that of a local muni course not a higher-end golf club. The driving range doesn't allow anything other than irons because if you hit woods (or hybrids), you may end up on the runway of the local airport or even hit a small plane landing. The golf carts have NO GPS and are old-school gas powered carts. The terrain is so steep in places, thr brakes lock up so be very careful heading downhill. There is no beverage cart on the course likely due to elevation changes of the cart paths so there is a refreshment stand at hole 5/6 and you pass it again around 15. The food was decent and there is a drive-thru making it a bit easier. We played the white tees which is under 6,000 yards but it's a slope of 137 so it's very difficult even at that length. If I played it again, I might only take the driver out on a few holes, one of which is #1. The bunkers have no rakes but the sand isn't terribly soft so you can smooth out it out with your shoe the best you can.

The course itself is visually spectacular and certainly in above-average condition. Water comes into play often and provides a lot of challenge. This is target-golf at its finest - I don't recommend using expensive balls because you will absolutely gift many to the desert which is environmentally protected so they don't want you searching for balls. Given the terrain, you probably shouldn't do that anyway. Even without search time, it was still a 5 hour round.

This was a beautiful course, a little quirky and extremely difficult. Golf can be frustrating but this course will make you more scream enough to forget the surrounding beauty. For reference, I am an 8.5 handicap and no one in my group broke 90. If you want to experience a very difficult course in a desert setting you maybe haven't played before, then go for it. I am happy I did it but there is no way I will play it again and that was the shared sentiment in my group. No way was it worth the money for the overall experience. I would recommend playing Paiute Golf Club or Rio Secco in Vegas for $100 less and a more...
