As a veteran in the grocery retail industry, this was a pleasure to shop.
Farmers market? No. But Humble small country market with a few bits of niche special items.. sure.
Parking lot has 1 corral and parking lines are faded just enough to plead innocent when taking two spaces.
No outside merchandising. A couple of hay bales or pumpkins would set the seasonal mood.
Front entry has accurate rural merchandising with water softener and bird food/suet. I think chimney logs, tiki oil, firewood bundles, and lump charcoal would add to the atmosphere too.
Cider display inside was seasonally accurate but I saw no donuts. I need donuts!!!
Turn the corner and Boom! Booze! Right next to entry. Liquor included. Yup. No Service counter just booze! Lol. Pretty brave for a grocer to have liquor so close to the exit nowadays. Rumor has it this is the top selling item as the sticker on the door claims “package prices”. Keep it behind the service counter. Or better - put it at the back isle of the store so they gotta shop to get to it...
Produce floor displays killed the “farm market” feel. Nothing screamed fresh. Get those onions, tomatoes, and potatoes out there! I know you are small but ya gotta scream fresh with your produce tables!
Where’s the bakery? Did I miss it? Put those crafty breads on a table. Tempt me with Cookies coffee cakes and cinnamon rolls. I promise I’ll buy them!!
Deli was impressive for a small market! Boars head?? Ok! Even a small cheese island!! — Look at you Metamora with 12 month Parmesan! With the clientele I was surprised there was not a dump tank full of presliced deli meats and cheese.
Butcher was missing. The cuts in his case look good but at peak at 6pm on a weekday nobody was around to serve me them. Butcher, you gotta hang out later to sell me those sweet meats!
Passed by a display of Pepperidge farm stuffing... 2lb bag on sale for $20??? Ouch! Hope there’s a gold coin at the bottom. $6.99 is the industry retail.
Packaged butcher meats Looked very good. Family pack NY strips @ $12.99 had excellent trim And marbling that would make Gordon Ramsay blush. Miller chicken was out of business.
Wide open area at the back of store for dairy had so much room they could drop 2 pallets of juice on the floor just to fill the space. Grab your boars head And hillshire farm reps - have them drop salami and charcuterie shippers here!!!
Grocery isles were all neat and full. A few out of stocks in the pet section.
Only 4 other shoppers in the store so I Had No wait at checkout. Cashier was awesomely polite. Guest service manager jumped in to bag and both showed off their hometown hospitality.
As I left I was surprised to see no “Metamora pride” - - no pictures of local high school football teams on the wall. No pictures of prize winning thoroughbreds. No community engagement boards or newsletters. Sell the “local” Metamora!
The locals love this store, and they should! This is one of those stores that marketing analysts describe as the “elusive gem”. We pour over data and try to emulate this. It’s success is in its simplicity and Metamora wouldn’t have it...
Read moreSpoilage in every department! These good reviews are fake! My first experience there yesterday had me back an hour later for a refund. My pot roast was rancid but not expired. My yogurt was rancid but not expired. My prepackaged grapes were 8 days expired. My bag of oranges were SO OLD they were internally liquefied! I'm shocked because my first impression was that the store seemed very clean and cared for. The "manager" must be the owner, he didn't have a name tag and was far too casual about the amount of spoiled food I was returning. I called ahead about the pot roast and his demeanor was unpleasant despite my friendly approach. Then i realised i had even more bad food from there. I brought along my husband to make the return and suddenly he's a feeble old man who can't hear and is so sorry. If you scroll far enough through these reviews you will see several other customers have posted that this store sells expired food. The only thing I don't have a picture of is the nasty discolored meat at the butchers counter. I went specifically for a roast. The butcher said they were bad! Then guided me to a refrigerated section where he said he just packaged those cuts. THE ROAST I BOUGHT WAS FROM THE SAME BEEF AND WAS...
Read moreTook a 30 minute drive to Andy's Market and it was well worth the trip! Not only was the store loaded with some amazing products, prices were reasonable and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful! We ordered their "Fill the Freezer" bundle of meat and picked up a few days later. For the price, we got beef roasts, pork chops, beef stew meat, chicken breasts, chicken leg quarters, sirloin steaks, and ground chuck beef. They also added 16 lbs of potatoes which I blanched and vacuum packed for the freezer! The meat arrives unfrozen in large bags so you'll need to package it yourself in the portions you need to store in the freezer. It's a bit tedious, but once the task is complete, you'll be glad it's portioned to suit your family needs. I also found some wines that I haven't been able to locate locally so now the family is set to enjoy some meat, potatoes and wine...
