I went to buy and slaughter a sheep at Mary’s Ranch last week. I purchased the sheep and witnessed how the butcher kills and hangs the animals. After the animal is slaughtered and while it is still kicking and violently reacting to the knife cutting its legs, they broke the legs, pierced them and hung the animal to be skinned. They then proceeded to skin the sheep while it is reacting to every knife. When I expressed my concern quietly to a staff member, she raised her voice and said “We are FDA approved, this is OK. Don’t tell us what’s acceptable. I will give you your money back”. Instead of trying to understand and communicate she threatened to give me my money back. I agreed and walked away from the place. Just ordered a pig for Christmas Eve and moments after paying realized I did not go thru the Christmas section on the website. (A bit confusing) I realized that I had selected a December 5 pickup instead of December 22 or 23. I immediately called Mary’s Ranch and spoke with Cindy. She found my online order and told me that to change the pick up date, even if I had just placed the order, would incur a fee of $30.00. She went on to say we learn our lessons thru money, blood and work! WHAT?? She said she contacted the web designer- Carlos Rodriguez who said the $30 fee would be charged. I recently purchased a whole pig from this slaughterhouse and was thoroughly impressed with the competitive pricing. The selection of fresh meats is impressive, with goats, cows, pigs, and chickens available.

One thing to note is that the facility can be quite pungent, so it's a good idea to bring a face mask if you're sensitive to strong odors.
