Jamie was knowledgeable and we were successful in seeing lots of puffins in the water, seals basking in the sun, an osprey on its nest, a perching peregrine falcon, lots of terns and other water birds. The 2 lighthouses and the basalt cliffs of an unusual island were unexpected treats. The seats on the boat were comfortable and there is a toilet. It is a smaller group on a smaller boat than some other tours, which was nice. Be prepared for wind, sun and cooler temps from ocean waters. No one became seasick but bring precautions if you are prone to this. Binoculars and a camera that has a good zoom and accomodates the ever moving boat and birds are recommended. The puffins were pretty far away at best. We spent less than 30 minutes at the island, a trade off for all the other things we were lucky to see. Some things to note: there is no one to meet you at the public dock and only one small sign to confirm that you are at the right meeting place so watch for his boat to arrive; he is taking his young, active, curious, unleashed and very friendly 50lb dog on the cruises. This tour is good value for the cost and the other experiences he offers sound...
Read moreHighly recommend!!! This tour was my whole family's favorite part of the trip. We did do the private charter and it was worth every penny!!!! Captain Jamie was an excellent host for our day of adventure. He was extremely knowledgeable and managed to make it around the fog to allow us some amazing sights! The islands we passed were beautiful! We saw harbor seals and a couple grey seals! An osprey nest was also a highlight as we arrived just when they were feeding the young ones in the nest! We got to see a variety of other birds – eagles, peregrine falcons, loons, terns, eiders, and the elusive (that day) puffin! The puffins were on my bucket list to see and we had to ride around a bit but finally found a few through the fog! We also got to experience hauling up lobster traps which was neat experience that we all enjoyed. Then we got the treat of eating the lobster we had just hauled up! We would gladly do the trip again if we go back to Maine! If you are thinking of booking, go for it – you will not be...
Read moreI was a bit hesitant about this small operation; however, it became the highlight of our vacation. Robertson is more expensive, but your experience will be much, much better than that which you would have on a big boat.
Robertson boats are small and they take only six passengers. It feels more like a private charter. They provide some complimentary snacks and seas sickness bands - if you need them. The captain and crew were extremely friendly, knew the local history, and had done some marine biology homework. The drive up from Bar Harbor was so worth it. Felt bad for the people on those big, silly, floating stadiums.
We took the puffin/seabird cruise. Hope to whale watch with them next time. It was great! Robertson Sea Tours should be your first choice for whale watching, puffin cruising in...
