Hard to justify increasing rates by $10 compared to last season when no upgrades to the facility were made. As an employee of the City of Orange, I sadly do not qualify for the East Orange discount.
Positives: Has a 250 yard driving range, putting green, and chipping green with enough space around it to practice pitch shots (I would recommend adding a bunker around this with the additional funds gained from the increased rates). Has an extensive halfway house and a high end restaurant/bar. All the facilities one would look for at a good golf course.
Negatives: Course design is very basic…probably the least memorable course in the area. Being built in a low area so close to water, there are lots of conditioning issues. Puddles are pretty much everywhere. Many bunkers were completely unplayable due to being filled with water. All 18 tee boxes looked like they hadn’t been mowed in weeks…the fairways were cut shorter than the tee boxes! There was literally grass in between the club and the ball on tee shots with every club including driver. I also find it odd that the restaurant serves non-alcoholic drinks in plastic cups rather...
Read moreFirst off let me say the course is very nice, the grounds are generally well maintained, the restaurant/bar is worth going to, and have had mostly positive experiences with the staff.
My issue relates specifically to the driving range. On at least half a dozen occasions this past season alone I have shown up to use the range and be told the range is closing early for some random event or that they are out of balls and the guy wasn’t going out there To round them up for another 45 min+ (Even on busy weekends).. Its so frustrating that this is a recurring problem, I wish they would just get some ball dispensing vending machines up by the range like most other modern golf course’s in NJ. Or at least get more balls into the rotation/increase collection frequency.
My golf buddies have the same complaints with the range here and its gotten to the point where even though this is our local range we drive to a place twice as far away with sub par dining to avoid this problem. Please get this issue corrected so I can spend all my...
Read more1/23: Very old-school course (can call in your tee time reservation) and customer-service oriented. Staff is great and accommodating. Great clubhouse and nice restaurant with a 10th hole trailer for a quick turnaround lunch. The course has a nice driving range and practice green. Course maintenance is a problem here, as many greens in 2022 were in bad shape for much of the season. The front nine is shorter but in poorer shape than the back nine - which is quite nice. Overall, because of the front nine, the course is easier than many in the area. I come here often for a quick round, or when I can't get a tee time at other places. Excellent green fees compared to other courses in the area.
7/23: Played here a lot this spring, early summer. Since my last review I noticed a tremendous improvement in the shape and maintenance of the course - especially the greens. This has become my...
