My family has always had a German meal on Christmas Eve. This year that tradition was at risk for not happening for the first time in over 30 years because the place we used to order our stuff from online closed, and we don't have any German deli's/grocery stores nearby like we did when we lived in Canada.
In a panic we started searching for alternatives. There were some online choices but nothing that had everything we needed which would have resulted in needing to place multiple orders from at least a couple of sites, and incurring shipping charges at both. We have Aldi in our town, but they also don't have everything.
Then we came across Katy's Imports in Moline, Illinois. Although the store is about 2.5 hours away we decided to go give it a try.
SUCCESS! We got nearly everything we wanted (plus a few extras) and anything we weren't able to get we should be able to find at our local Aldi!!
The store was a bit smelly, but you can tell it's an older building. The owners were super friendly, which was an added bonus!
Short of another online option becoming available to us, we now have our new go-to for our German Christmas Eve dinner and we are alllll super...
