Monmouth General Store — Local services in Monmouth

Update 10/9/21- went in to place an order and return some bottles. Stood there for 5 minutes being looked at by the staff. No one said a word. After 2 people cut ahead of me and eventually were helped at the register I left. If you were wondering Kwik shop is no better. Just go to Winthrop.

Food is decent if it's made right and your order is taken correctly. Their help seems to be hit or miss. Either that or they are not trained and just get thrown into the mix of things. My last experience here I ordered an italian, with a few specific things on it. I picked it up only to find that it was loaded (I could see it through the wrapper). I told them it was incorrect and not what I had asked for. They took it back, picked the toppings off, and re-wrapped the sandwhich. I wasn't too happy but it was quarter of 8 so I paid and went home. Upon opening it, toppings I had not wanted were left on the sandwhich and some of what I had asked for was not there. I returned the sandwhich only to have them laugh while apologizing for the mistake. This is quite disrespectful and a bad image for the business. It was 8 o'clock now and everywhere else in town was closed. They have lost my business. I have had multiple other orders messed up or burnt. Unfortunate because they have pretty large servings for the price, but...

This place is in a small town, rual area of Maine. The store is a store. You go in, buy stuff and leave. Not much to be said about that. What I can say is though, the people that work there...I'm not too sure about them.

One time I had to call a friend of mine that lives there in Monmouth and so I stopped there and parked to use the phone because I don't like to drive and text. No joke, I wasn't even there for 1 minute and some dude comes out asking me if I needed help with anything, as if I was there to start trouble (just to clear things up, I'm a Black, Muslim woman (OMG, IKR?!) that was born in Lewiston).

I get people aren't hip to "out-of-towners" but the way that this person approched me and the tone of his voice made it clear that I was making him uncomfortable for whatever reason and I didn't even do anything to him.

I used to live up above the Monmouth General store I have recently moved out of state but have heard several local people complain about the changes at the store it makes me sad as I grew up in the area and the general store was always a great little country store . The new owners are very nice and I know they want to make money but the changes to the store have not been good ones it no longer feels like a Country General store when you walk in it looks and feels like a store you would see in a city . The food isn’t as good , And selling paraphernalia that looks like a crack pipe and stuff like Kratom is not cool … I pray the changes don’t cause the store to go out of business and that the owners will change the store back to more of a...
