Tried to go there a few days ago, and it was closed off. Not sure how long it’s been closed off but what used to be a trail down has been almost completely covered by poison oak. There’s really no other way to get down there. It’s fenced off too because the seals are down there and it’s apparently laboring season for them. I’m really not sure if it’d be open to the public again since it’s completely covered with poison oak now. The water is pretty though from above even though there was lots of algae. The hike in was easy. We parked on Highway 1 (free) close by Point Lobos parking lot ($10 to park) and from there, it was about a mile walk to Bird Island, China Cove, and Gibson Beach. Even though China Cove is closed, there were still enough to check out so it wasn’t the worst when we found out China Cove...

Beautiful place to hike. Very comfortable and easy walk to witness the beautiful emerald green waters converging into the white sandy beach. What a sight !! Good that there is no access to the small beach, because the best views are from above. You have to park at the Bird Island parking spot and on the way to the Island viewing spot is this cove. We noticed a huge seal on a rock with its baby swimming nearby. What a blissful sight ! Do not miss this inside the Point Lobos State...
