Based off of my experience at Rays with the service department I could not recommend anyone purchase a boat from Rays.
I called before hand and asked if they had time to look at my Lund. They said they would be able to get it in right away. Dropped the boat off with a list of items to check. They called back about a week later and gave me a quote on the simple repair. I approved and told them to order the parts. Luke said Mercury had the parts in stock and he was going to order the parts that day. I asked about the other items to be looked at including the front winch, carb cleaning and oil leak. Said they would check into it and call me back with a quote. No call back.
Called three more times over the following weeks and they promised to call back, no call back every time. The last call I said I was picking up the boat whether it’s fixed or not. They said the part was back ordered but will be in next week. Meaning they never ordered the parts.
I asked for a refund and was declined. Said they would give me a better deal on parts/labor although I don’t have another 3 weeks to sit around. I gave them an opportunity to make it right and they declined. Apparently they do not value their customers or their time. Unfortunately they waisted my time not being on the water.
I picked the boat up and brought it to Kovash Marine in Moorhead. Had the original problem fixed in 15 minutes that day with parts on hand!
I wouldn’t purchase a boat based on a brand and more on the service department. I would be even more frustrated if this was a warranty issue. Learn from...
Read moreIf I could give this place a 0, I would. I bought a 2021 9.9 Mercury Pro Kicker EFI from Mike. This kicker motor has been by far the worst investment I have ever made. The electric trim doesn’t work the manual trim doesn’t work. Ray’s staff are basically unavailable and won’t return phone calls. I have used the motor less than 10 hours. Mercury won’t have anything to do with me.
Update: The morning after writing this review Eric from Ray’s contacted me. I explained my whole situation to him. He is getting in touch with Mercury to see if there is anything they can do. I will update again later.
Final Update: Eric was able to get a hold of Mercury to have my parts sent down from Canada. My kicker motor was fixed 11/9/21. I can't remember the exact date it was dropped off. It was in early to mid June. After Eric contacted Mercury there were still numerous delays. I finally asked Eric for a refund as fall came. I have lost a year of use out of the motor. Eric has not return any emails since after asking for a refund. It appears that the part failed because the tiller handle got wet. In my opinion, it's an outboard marine motor. It is going to get wet. I hope the replacement part was worth the wait. I have about $4000 invested in this motor which can't be used. I could have reallocated those funds many different areas now. I did reach out to Mercury as well for a refund. They just refer me back to Ray's, which will go no where. I feel that Eric was able to help out enough to bring the review up to the 1 star....
Read moreI’ve been having troubles with my 9.9Pro Kicker motor so I stopped in to Ray’s Marine for some parts a couple of weeks ago…..my motor isn’t getting fuel so I asked the guys behind the counter for a fuel filter. They informed me that they didn’t have one….but the mechanic behind the counter informed me that my problem is with gummed up jets in my carburetor. I asked him what a carburetor job would run and he said about $200 and they were about a week out for appointments. I said I’d think about it. I called them back the next day to book an appointment. They said to bring it in early morning and they’d have me done unless something else popped up. So I brought my boat in first thing today and dropped it off. The service counter rep Luke said he had the parts to do the job and getting my boat back would be no problem unless another issue popped up. He would call me if there were problems. I waited until 1:30 pm to call and check and received a callback approximately 15mins. later. Luke informed me they didn’t have a filter on hand nor did they have spark plugs. I decided to just go pick it up but before leaving I visited with the manager Brian…. I told him Luke had lied to my face about having everything needed to complete the work. I don’t foresee going back and I’d think twice if I were a prospective customer looking for help at this establishment. Customer...
