I have enjoyed my previous experiences with this golf course. However, recently, I attempted to set a tee time for my husband. Like normal, he plays and I spectate. It's just a nice relaxing way to spend time together without the kids. Two weeks ago, while on the phone with customer service, I stated our reservation as normal: 1 player/1 spectator. I was kindly told that "I would not be allowed on the course as Sunday was busy and my husband would have to ride with another single player. (Sigh) To which I queried, "So Covid is over? What about proper Social Distancing?" Again, the gentlemen kindly replied, "I'm sorry ma'am. This is what the manager has me telling guests. I can set your reservation for you and your husband. Once you check in, you can talk to management." I firmly replied, "I'll go ahead and set that reservation but I can guarantee you my husband will NOT ride with anyone else. He won't care how busy the course is. Plus, I am suppose to drive all the way down to Riverside (from Rancho Cucamonga) only to be possibly turned away? That sounds awfully inconvenient." In the end, we completed the reservation and I explained to my husband the situation.
HOWEVER, my husband called and well 🤷🏽♀️. The conversation completely went side ways between both parties and we never did go to the course. While the customer service did acknowledge required social distancing guidelines, the course really wasn't going to budge on me riding with my husband and would require my husband to ride with another player.
Kudos to the customer service gentleman. He REALLY was polite to me. The course is nice but that's my opinion and I am DEFINITELY no golfer. I noticed alot of dirt to the sides of the fairways (if I remember correctly around holes 2-3 and near the restroom), not very attractive looking but my husband has never pointed it out so it must not be a big deal. The women's bathroom on the course is kinda meh; no hand soap provided. We never saw a food cart but they do have a grill. The...
Read moreI’ve been playing Old for at least 20 years. I’ve never seen it in the condition it was a few days ago. While it’s never been a top-flight course by any stretch, it was always a decent go-to as far as bang for your buck. It should have been a telltale sign when we were able to fly through the first few holes. That’s saying a ton when it comes to General. Anyone who knows this place knows how infamous it is for slow paced play. The fairways are PAINTED GREEN. They are literally dirt and weeds. BTW thanks for turning the soles of my $100 Nikes turquoise! Good try General. The fairways are bad enough, but if your drive strays just a little off the beaten path, just pick it up and find some semblance of grass. You WILL damage your clubs if you attempt to swing off this concrete type dirt and moreover, you WILL NOT be able to get your ball in the air, especially with a fairway wood. The sand traps are nothing more than dried up mud, most of the tee boxes are overgrown and/or patchy, and the greens are pretty bumpy. Honestly, they ought to be ashamed of themselves charging even $45 in peak hours. If you’re on a budget or just want to enjoy the weather on a not-so-challenging track, save yourself the frustration and play Fairmount twice. Or if you’re going to insist on playing the General, bring your backup...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you are looking for a good place to hold a reception after interring a loved one at Riverside National Cemetery, look no further than General Old Golf Course. We hosted an event there on 28 October 2025.
Logistically, it’s perfect and super easy being just 3 minutes from the cemetery, making it incredibly easy for guests to find and navigate.
Food: They prepared an excellent light lunch of sandwiches and salads, and also offer a full bar and soft drinks. Everything was fresh and beautifully presented.
Cost: Very reasonable pricing options, they provide great value for both the setting and the service.
Atmosphere: We hosted a luncheon for about 50 people on the covered patio. It was lovely and serene, with peaceful surroundings and a great view of nearby military aircraft (we even saw C-17s and MV-22s flying by).
Military-Friendly: My father was a veteran, and I appreciated how the venue honors and respects those who have served — it felt like the right place to gather in his memory.
Finally, the staff was excellent; incredibly accommodating, professional, and kind. They took care of everything and made the entire process seamless.
Highly recommend General Old Golf Course for anyone seeking a beautiful, respectful, and convenient venue near Riverside...
