Let me preface this by saying it is a very beautiful place, on the outside. On the inside, however, you'll find that the staff you may interact with are terribly rude. I am a delivery guy, I deliver flowers. Sometimes I deliver them to services, today was one of those days. I had two services to go to within 15 minuets of each other so naturally I went to the one that was supposed to be done first, the one at Riverside National. When i finally found the group for my delivery they were still talking to the employee who was guiding them so I unloaded my stand of flowers and walked over then patiently waited for them to be done. After they had finished up the employee walks over to me and before I can ask him if I was in the right place or if anyone would take these flowers, the man says "Get back in your car." just like that. After a slight pause he says that they don't know where the service will take place so i will have to wait and that if I didn't wait i wouldn't be delivering them, all this while the family just watched me no one taking the flowers no one lifted a finger. So I load up the car again and wait. And I wait. Finally they figure out where they are going and I follow them. Eventually we get to a small road that leads to what I thought would be a small parking area so I kept on trucking, boy was I wrong. Suddenly this caravan stops on this road and everyone gets out and parks. So I'm stuck with having to reverse out after the kind gentleman in front of me, who could see my visible anger and frustration, finally took the flowers off my hands. After I reverse out (a 1/4 mile reverse out) I start my way back out, and get lost. That's when I notice security following me. I thought to myself, "hey maybe they'll help me out" so I pull over and roll the window down and ask the lady if she could tell me how to get out and instead of answering my question she says something along the lines of "just pulled out of there and you drove on the grass didn't you." So clearly the man from before called the security to come and harass me because he thought so little of me that he assumed I would drive over graves to get out of there. After telling her no i reversed out cause I'm not a prick she told me how to leave and I got out. I missed the other funeral by an hour and a half. I will make sure no one i know comes to be laid...
Read moreSubject Guardmen folding flag detail is a sloppy disrespect my dad's flag had seven stars showing where should only be five. Army Navy Marine Corps Air Force Coast Guard Each star symbolizes the collective honor and respect for the service members from these branches. In Reverence and Duty At Riverside's hallowed grounds, beneath the solemn skies, A ceremony unfolds where quiet honor lies. My father, laid to rest, beneath the flag so dear, Yet the folds that draped his memory were marred by errors clear. Two soldiers, tasked with care, their duty worn but true, Yet in the folds they faltered, their reverence overdue. Seven stars revealed where five should rightly stand, A flag not folded true, but held by clumsy hand. My son, Fort Myers, a sentinel proud, from Arlington's esteemed guard, Saw the lapse in honor, felt the sting, though hard. In the midst of grief and tears, he stepped with graceful might, To teach with gentle firmness, to correct and set things right. We took the flag in hand, with careful, loving grace, And in the corner of their sight, we found our rightful place. As each fold met its purpose, my son’s words rang clear, Reciting the sacred meaning, Each of the 13 folds why we must never forget, bringing honor near. The ceremony moved forward, as prayers did softly blend, Yet in that fleeting moment, my heart did comprehend. The flag now folded true, with stars aligned so right, Became a symbol of respect, shining in the night.A moment etched in memory, of duty and of pride, Where father’s legacy was honored, and tears were softly dried. With every fold completed, and each star seen anew, A tribute to my father, and to the...
Read moreBeautiful place. Full of history. Full of Hero’s. I understand this place has 320,000 veterans resting here with capacity to hold 2 million. Their Medal of Honor Memorial is simple and very humbling. The names of every Medal of Honor recipient etched into their marble walls. My uncles name is on the wall and my father and father in law are buried here. This place is humbling. The aircraft from March Air Force Base next door fly over this place and adds to the pageantry. When the flags are placed on all the grave sites on Veterans Day, it is a site to behold. I get overwhelmed with the feeling of pride. There is history here everyone should visit and experience regardless of having family placed here or not. I hope you will visit.
On weekdays there is plenty of help and the place is well organized. They have a 6 staging areas for services. The guard at the guard shack will direct you. BUT, On the weekends the offices are closed. If you don’t know where the gravesite is you are visiting, the best bet is to go to the offices. They will be closed but there is a kiosk next to the front entrance that can direct you to the gravesite. They will direct you to a “section”. But the sections are not clearly market out. And It is a large place so patience is a nessesary. After you find out the section you Then download a map on your phone from the official website to find the area. I have run across a few people who were frustrated trying to find their family grave sites. So try to find out all the information you can before you get there on the weekends. Or best bet is to plan on going during the week when the offices are...
