Would give -100000 stars if I only could. The manager is a thief. AVOID at any cost.
Back in late August I met with the foster family of one of the animals from this shelter that I was interested in adopting. I filled out the adoption paperwork, paid the adoption fee, and was told by the family to wait for the shelter to contact me. A few days passed and I didnāt receive any calls from the shelter, the foster family started āghostingā me and leaving me on read. I had to call the shelter myself to confirm that the adoption process was successful and the dog would be in my care from then on. Only the dog was still staying with the foster family, who were still not responding to any of my messages or calls.
The next day I decided to call the shelter again, to solve the problem once and for all. They immediately redirected the call to their manager, Lorance Gomez, stating that he wanted to talk to me about something; well, it turned out, that I was either lied to, or there was some sort of a problem with their system (they did NOT explain what the reason for all this was), and after all, I wouldnāt be able to adopt the dog. From the moment Lorance and I started talking, he was very disrespectful and gave me a lot of attitude for completely no reason at all. He didnāt care to explain to me WHY theyāve changed their mind about letting me adopt the dog, only giving me a bunch of stupid reasons, i.e. that my apartment was too small for me to have a large dog (he was informed by me numerous times, that my apartment is both animal friendly and 1000+ ft sq), that I was not active enough to care for a large dog (he was also informed by me that I work remotely, and that I lead a very active lifestyle, walk 20+ miles a day, run marathons, etc.). He also stated that because Iām a young woman (23 this year), I wouldnāt be able to care for a German Shepherdāeven though he knew very well that Iāve had GSDs my whole life, and never had any problems whatsoever. That may not have been his intention, but to me, this āargumentā sounded misogynistic, and I felt very offended by it. I also experienced a form of racism, hearing snarky comments about my accent and being treated like a āslowā person the moment Lorance found out I was Polish.
Because of Loranceās incompetence and ignorance, I lost $3000 that I paid for training sessions for the dog I was told I had adopted. The fee was non refundable. I was also promised a refund of the adoption fee, which was $110, within a week. I was even supposed to get a call from them, confirming that they refunded me the moneyā¦. Well, it has been almost SIX MONTHS now, and I still havenāt received my refund. Iāve tried calling and messaging Lorance numerous times and to no avail. Iām pretty sure he blocked my number.
Itās completely unacceptable to not only lead someone on, lie to them, treat them like trash because of their nationality, cost them $3000, and then, on top of that STEAL from them. I wonāt be able to get the $3000 back, but I still want my refund for the adoption fee, as I HAVE NOT adopted a pet, and Iām pretty sure the money went straight to Loranceās pocket, and Iām NOT okay with any money going to this person.
Iām not sure if I was treated this way because of my nationality, and Loranceās ignorance and complete lack of respect for others, or because of the shelterās general lack of competence, but, at the end of the day, I was still treated badly, and itās unacceptable, no matter the reason.
If youāre thinking of adopting a pet from this shelter, please be careful, and definitely donāt go and talk to their manager, Lorance. The rest of the us staff is really nice and friendly, but please, AVOID THE MANAGER. Especially when youāre not American, and god forbid,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis shelter calls a Rottweiler/pitbull puppy a German Shepherd ... Plus without telling the puppy's aggressive biteing + not want to walking on leash behave...this puppy surely need dog trainer's work ... We are not the first one to return her....
We just returned the puppy "Kimberly". she is Rottweiler/pitbull ,the combination , she is not the German Shepherd. The animal shelter should tell the truth of her breed, plus the note that her personality problems . Instead of misleading people to repeatly adopt and return for each time return will cost the abandonment hurt to the puppy, plus the people's lost $$ of returning the dog....it is double loss and hurt, that the animal shelter should avoid it. Not to alow it be happened again and again .
The photos also shows when mona was still chaseing and trying to bite the "bear" dog even after I put her on leash. She was chaseing and connering ,bitting the bear dog when she was not on leash running on the beach. The bear dog's owner and another small dog's owner all told me that she needs dog trainer to train her persist biteing habit.
1, she is not German Shepherd that we want ,they mis-marking her breed. Mona is Rottweiler/pitbul.
2, she has strong bad dog's habits: apressive biteing issue...consistly chasing and wanting to attack bite dogs and people.....
3, she refuses to walk ,but instead of obeying and walking on leash, she will sit /lay on the ground each time when I walk her with me. Step by step frequently disobey refuse to walk with me.....
4, she consistenly chase and bite lighting cat at home, lighting has to escap outdoor dear not to come home for long time even in cold day and night ...
5, My husband Greg said he is not wanting to spend money to take her to the dog training place...I respect his decision.....
For the at least above 5 big serious bad reasons, we dicide to return her to the not telling truth county of santa clara (california USA) animal shelter place... they should also note/info people that this dog has problems and need dog trainer.
Also we can only have one dog at this point, we want to have the one we want and love to have, to enjoy every year, every day, every moment we see and spend time with the dog, instead to have an unwanted one to occupy the only one spot, to make us suffer the nightmare to have it for the future 12-15 years ...we cannot must keep/have her in our life , just because dogs do get put down in the animal shelter..... that's not our duty/responsibility to just adopt a dog only beacise to save their life, we have our life too, our life matters too.....but I am willing to donate to the animal shelter anything to help them out. But it does not mean we have to bring them in and live with them in our life.
Again, the animal shelter used No.A dog's photo calling the similar dog No. B breed. The animal shelter really should not call a rottweiler/pitbull a German Shepherd dog. They are actually 2 different dogs at all. the difference of the 2 kinds of dogs are very obvious....
This is the game that these animal shelters playing :" Call a deer a horse"
Girlfriend /wife is the same thing. Be super careful not to take the so so one ,but miss the great right blessing one. How to do: Memorize God's WORDS, follow Lord Jesus, listen to Holy Spirit's guidence... be patience, pray to God to bring you the right one to you... .š„°šš„°šš„°š

A little over two years ago I walked into this shelter and a nice woman asked me if she could help me. I told her I liked big dogs and that I was looking to adopt a senior dog. She spun on her heel, seemingly knowing exactly who she was going to take me too. She walked me to Lady, a 9 year old, 120lb Staffordshire Terrier/German Shephard giant. It was love at first sight. The shelter gave her to me in amazing condition for her age and health history. As a 6 month old puppy she had been turned into this same shelter with a broken leg and ear. The site clinic did great work, as she had no issues with any of those things as an senior dog.
For the last 2+ years Lady has been everywhere with me. She would wake me up with a lick to the face at 7AM nearly exactly every morning. I stopped setting an alarm for work she was so reliable. She gained fans at my place of employment, restaraunts, even in parking lots. She didn't like other dogs much, but she loved people and they loved her. She was an amazing addition to my household and family. Unfortunately, Lady developed a tumor on her spleen and passed away about 2 months ago. It happened fairly suddenly and I was devastated. I felt grateful for the time I had with her, despite the brevity. I gave her a safe and comfortable home during her final years, but believe me when I say, I got the better end of the deal. She was an amazing companion.
Recently I began to feel strongly that I was ready to bring another 'rescue' into my life. I had just started looking around when I happened upon 2yr old Maggie, an Australian Cattle Dog, at this same shelter. She was laying near the gate of her kennel and when I walked up she just looked up at me with the sweetest eyes. Then she popped up, grabbed a toy from the backwall and walked up and put it in my hand. That seemed like a pretty obvious message, so I asked to take her out for a walk and there was this brilliant young employee that knew all about Maggie. They knew all the details, answered all my questions, and most importantly....warned me of the things that Maggie still needs to be trained on. This wasn't a hard sell, this was an education I was getting. I have forgotten your name, I am sorry....but if you read this: Thank you! Your knowledge and enthusiam about Maggie were a key part in my decision.
I took Maggie home as a foster, to see how things would go. The weekend went great. She seemed very happy and completely comfortable with me and being in my home all weekend. After I brought her into the clinic for a quick once over, I walked next door and let them know I would go ahead and adopt her. She seems very happy and I know I am. As smart and athletic as she is, she will be keeping this old man on his toes I am sure. But in a good way.
Not to get all 'hippy' on folks, but the vibe is right in this place. If you are looking for a rescue to join your family in this neck of the woods, I can't recommend them...
