We did the DT Raleigh tour. I absolutely loved the food selections. I've lived in Raleigh for about two years and we didn't go to any place that I've been to before! My favorite was a tie between 18 Seaboard and Rye Bar. Both had great food (like 5 star, delicious, and GREAT portions!), and incredible atmospheres. We loved getting the info from the chefs and restaurant managers about where their food comes from - all local - and the history of the restaurants. I was shocked to see we actually got more than a meals worth of food, plus unique and full sized cocktails!! Plus I have new places to go eat now!
The only negative part was that the tour ran an hour over because we missed the first bus and had to stand around and wait for 15/20 minutes, then missed the second bus and had to walk in the swealtering heat for over a mile. Also, our guide was not my idea of a guide - he wanted to walk with the group and never in front - that wasn't helpful since none of us were Raleigh natives and didn't feel comfortable leading when we didn't know where we were going. As much as I loved 18 Seaboard, it didn't make sense to have that as the second stop at all. I would recommend the tour for sure, but hopefully they do some more guide training and/or have more outgoing and 'follow me!' Tour guides.
Well worth the money for the amount and quality of the food...
Read moreWe recently took the Downtown Raleigh walking tour. What a really cool way to spend a gorgeous Saturday afternoon! The chosen restaurants provided a great variety of tastings and experiences. The progression was perfect and seemed well thought out. Our favorite stops included Posta Tuscan Grille, Zinda and 518 West. The chef at Posta was so personable and the staff were so welcoming. Not to mention the food was amazing! Zinda was a super cool place that we had never heard of before so that was great. The samplings were yummy and we hope to go back to try other things on their menu. The tour of the space was a nice addition to the overall tour as well! The Exec chef at 518 was so funny, warm and engaging in his conversations. And the wood-fired pizza that he prepared for us was out of this world! So fresh and delicious. You could definitely taste the love he claimed to put into it! ;) Ellen, our guide, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and did a good job of leading us around. We will definitely suggest Triangle Food Tours to friends and hope to take another one ourselves soon. It's one thing to have the many tastings from all the restaurants but to have the chefs come to explain the dishes and concepts to you as well was very neat. It's such a unique and fun way for foodies, or anyone, to explore the...
Read moreWe had a fair experience with Triangle Food Tours. We visited a total of 6 vendors. I left full and with more knowledge about downtown Raleigh then we previously had. I also appreciated how friendly and informative our tour guide, Sarah, was. I took off 1 star because one of the vendors we visited, Growler USA, seemed to be lacking in service and attentiveness to our group. They brought out the food on large plates and forgot that we had to have individualized portions. They also mentioned that would be bringing out another food item to serve us on the menu, but ultimately did not. Our tour unfortunately was also rushed at the end, ending 30 minutes earlier than anticipated, which was the result of an unforeseen circumstance with another tour group.
If you're interested in checking out some restaurants in downtown Raleigh while learning some of its history, I recommend this tour to locals and visitors to the Raleigh area alike. It's a nice way to spend some of...
