From the outside appears like a cute little shop. At first we were excited to check it out seeing their sign advertising it was a family owned business. We got the impression we weren’t welcome. We weren’t greeted upon arrival. Just one person in the back of the shop said hello to us. The television at the front was loudly playing the news immigration segment about ICE and deportation which was uncomfortable. Its supposed to be a tourist spot - they should play something neutral like the weather or light hearted. Sorry but we don’t go on vacation to listen to news or feel welcomed when its blasting that especially walking in as a mixed race couple. Not alot of local options. We expected shells, art, jewelry, etc to be local but found labels that indicate it comes from somewhere else like shells and coral with stickers that say from Indonesia. Strange if people come to the outerbanks for items special to the obx area. Still you will find jewelry, shells, rocks, sea glass, caps, magnets, toys, books, frames, sunglasses, etc. Prices were fine. Quickly left and would not return on...
Read moreFantastic family-owned shop with great service. Prices are very reasonable compared to seashell shops you would find in other areas. Huge selection of shells and many other gift items, definitely something for everyone. I had a younger child with me and staff pointed me in the direction of things she might like in the back part of their store, they checked on us every once in a while to see if we wanted anything brought out of the cases, and were super friendly the entire time we were there. We cut it really close to closing time and they were very gracious about it. We purchased about 30 items and the cashier counted our items and then the lines on the receipt to ensure everything matched up. Not a single negative thing to say about this place, we will absolutely come back when we vacation...
Read moreI have been going to this place since I was a kid, but I was so disappointed by their lack of hospitality and kindness today. I brought my kids in to carry on the tradition of visiting this store and while we were there my younger son (who is potty training) suddenly needed to use the bathroom. I asked if he might be able to use their bathroom (and not have an accident in their store) but the older female shop keeper flatly refused and said we would have to find a bathroom at the other end of the bridge. Clearly she has not had a young child in her life for many years, and this store is not doing a good job of living up to their reputation of being a family establishment for over 50 years. So disappointed in their lack of southern...
