Spent last night tent camping at this location. First, the tent sites aren't actually sites. It's just grass. And it's all on a slope, so you'll slide down during the night. But they are nicely shaded! The sites we were at had electrical boxes, but we didn't use them so no comment there. It did have a charcoal grill, which we used as a tiny table since there are ZERO tables at any of the sites. Made dinner fun. Also, watch for mosquitoes and poison ivy.
They do have a spigot with cool, decent water for drinking. And we didn't think the bathrooms were awful. Not hotel quality, but pretty standard for a youth camp site. Plenty of really hot water for the showers, which is what I cared about. There's also a store with snacks and ice, just not sure what the hours are.
Our real complaint is about the lack of quiet hours. Although there weren't any listed on their website, or posted anywhere, I have never stayed at a campground that didn't enforce some sort of quiet hours, so I assumed this campsite would be the same. Apparently not. At 11 pm there was a group of teenagers sitting on the playground right next to our tent having a conversation. Elsewhere in the camp more kids were playing some game that involved screaming, yelling, and clapping. This continued until nearly midnight. Maybe it's fine for the RV campers (although I can't imagine that they would enjoy all the screaming either), but if you are looking for a tent site, look elsewhere. I don't think it's fair of this camp to offer sites to multiple groups/individuals if they aren't going to require their youth groups to be respectful and quiet when others are sleeping. Next time we will camp at the state park instead.
We've been tent camping across the country this summer and this was hands down the worst experience we've had. All it would take would be enforced quiet hours for this to be a really great...
Read moreWe stayed for 4 days, would have left after the first night if it had been possible. The cabins were filthy and smelled terrible. I spent the first hour on the site cleaning the cabin just to make it tolerable. The windows were dirty and when I opened the window to air out the cabin I was greeted by a handful of dead bugs in the window sill. I found a bottle of bleach cleaner in the bathhouse that I used to clean the door that was filthy and to scrub the muddy floors.
Despite this bbing a church ran campground, they don't seem to care about inappropriate and lewd graffiti written on the bunk beds in the cabins. The last straw for us is when the campground manager yelled at my husband about vehicles driving through the grassy areas after a rain storm and tearing up the grass. She didn't care that we didn't have a vehicle there to do any of the damage (we arrived with a friend) and even telling her this, she kept yelling at my husband about it. Then to make a lovely situation worse, in the middle of the night my husband's mother was awaken by another campground manager who told her to get out of the bunkhouse room she was assigned to because she wasn't allowed to sleep there, even though it was where she was assigned to sleep.
The bathrooms were always dirty and their "laundry facility " is one small washing machine and one dryer. Good luck getting laundry dobe, it's easier to go to the laundromat in town.
I do not recommend this place to anyone. It is poorly ran, dirty, and an embarrassment to the church...
Read moreOverall decent RV campground. Full hookups, We had a concrete pad (some are gravel), restrooms with 2 showers (there was no water in the showers the first day we were there). They have a washer ($1.50 per load) and a dryer ($1.00 per load), some swings and a tiny playground. 4 minutes from Historic Nauvoo Main Street and the Nauvoo Temple. In the way of feedback, the roads going in are a bit rough. We have a 36 ft travel trailer. and had to go slow and watch for holes in the narrow roadway. Also, they need to have better signs for those who come in after dark. We really struggled to find where we were supposed to go. Also, we didn't have a phone number to call for directions or to let them know our arrival time. No information was in our confirmation email. When we finally found where we were supposed to be, there was a phone number on the door for registration/check in. The lady was nice and helpful and helped us find our sport. She told us of the storm that had just come through tearing down hundreds of trees and told us that we didn't have electricity. We used our generator on the first night and by the next day the electricity had been restored. We thought about staying at the Nauvoo State Park Campground a few blocks away, but, after seeing how hard it would be to get in with the dirt roads with huge potholes, we were glad to be at Camp Nauvoo. $10 a night more but we have full hookups and a concrete pad. We would...
