I bought a Big Sky membership 4 months ago for my grandson because he suffers from depression and anxiety, hoping that exercising could help him cope with his me tal health issues. He was excited to try it but when he arrived at the gym, he got too anxious and had to leave. He has not been using the membership because just thinking about getting there elevates his anxiety to unmanageable levels. I sent a letter to customer service requesting the cancelation of the membership. They replied that they needed a medical diagnosis indicating that my grandson is disabled. As many people who suffer from mental health issues, my grandson does not want to seek treatment. He was hospitalized once due to a psychotic episode, but refused to continue his medication and treatment regimen. As a result, he has not been officially diagnosed. Therefore, we cannot produce a letter from a doctor. I am an elderly woman living solely on social security. I cannot afford the $32 dollars I am paying for my grandson gym membership and cannot produce the letter that the fitness company demands. I have sent several letters appealing to this company’s sense of humanity only to get the same reply asking me to send a letter from a doctor indicating that my grandson is disabled. My grandson would not be considered disabled by a mental health professional because he cannot be in places where there is noise y large crowds. Therefore, not only am I struggling with my grandson’s mental health issues. I am also stuck paying a membership I cannot afford and this company could...
Read moreGreat gym that's starting to show it's age. I use this gym in the morning - evening experience will likely vary. I do free weights, elliptical, and use the tanning bed. They maintain the free weights well and the benches/platforms are in great shape, and there's a wide selection for dumbbells that start at 10 and go up to 120, many of the ellipticals are relatively clean for older machines, but have broken buttons and built in TVs that no longer work, and the tanning room/bed gets only the barest minimum of cleaning. The locker rooms, while low cleaning is done adequately, the high areas are filthy, especially the walls around the vent areas; they are completely coated in dust and the lights have an inverted reflector on them that is full of bugs and dust. Showers are clean, but are sprayed down rather than scrubbed so are exceptionally filmy and silicone sealant is in disrepair. The staff is always very friendly and greets me when I walk in.
I would recommend the gym to my friends for workouts. If you are shy, it's easy to keep to yourself here in the morning but if you need help, there are plenty of willing friendly people. I never recommend it for tanning due to the poor cleanliness of...
Read moreLots of youth who text and make you wait to use the machines. They do not re rack the weights either. The facilities are actually good, clean except for the mens lockers. But as others have said on this review and others, they rip us off. Worked out for 4 years and paid with credit card. I was approaching 65 when I could get Silver Sneakers for free. Paid cash the last 2 years to make it harder for Big Sky to steal my money. My last cash day was March 18 when I left for another gym. June 18 I look at my account and see they had recharged my card without authorization and billed me for 3 months when i had never stepped into the gym in new Britain. This is not an unusual story, in fact it is the norm. Management will say i have a grudge, not true, or just blame the people who charge the card. They will tell you they have nothing to do with the credit card. But when you call the people who charge you, they say call the gym. It's a scam. Management should be ashamed, but they don't care. Check other reviews from different sites. If you go here DO NOT USE YOUR CARD EVER ! PAY CASH, IF THE SAY NO, GO TO A...
