I was sent to the hospital from work when a coworker saw me struggling with severe chest pain and our nurse told me I had very high blood pressure and heart rate. I arrived at 2 PM and checked in and was told to be seated. Never warned about a long wait time. Hours passed and I found out I was around other patients with heart attack symptoms all waiting to be seen as well as others with conditions that could become life threatening shortly if not treated. Many of the patients around me left to goto another hospital because they were in such critical conditions and not receiving treatment or monitoring. I wasnāt given a room until 3:45 AM, and still hadnāt seen a doctor. By the time I had, the doctor came to instantly tell me there was no sign of a heart attack and discharge me. He did not check anything else or offer any possible explanations as to what was going on. I wasnāt even given an IV. I waited two more hours to be discharged while sitting there not being monitored by anyone or treated, taking up a room that others could have used.
Not once with heart attack symptoms were any of us checked on by staff during this 13.5 hour wait room fiasco. Not once was anyone warned about the wait when checking in. If you canāt accommodate the patients, why not be honest so they can go get cafe somewhere else? The patients who got up and left were told that it would take 3 days for the hospital to be able to send the imaging test scansā¦if you canāt accommodate people, why withhold their test results when they try to get treated elsewhere? Greed? Meanwhile the nurses were sitting and chatting behind the scenes. Itās terrifying to think how many people have been seriously damaged or even killed by the severe neglect of this ER. Not to mention, I had asked several times every few hours for the womenās restroom to be refilled with toilet paper and it never was. My heart breaks for the elderly and seriously ill patients who waited 13+ hours violently vomiting and weeping and screaming in pain.
They used to say you goto St. Joeās to die, this place is much worse. Edwardās is the only decent hospital in this area, I have always received urgent and above and beyond care from them, but with chest pains was worried to travel further. Lesson learned, a 30 minute longer drive is better than a 13.5 hour wait time. I am worse off not having any clue why my blood pressure shot up, heart rate was 170 at rest, and severe chest pains all at once. I am experiencing severe back pain from sitting in a metal chair for over...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe facility might be nice, and that's only because it's still relatively new, but the doctors are completely incompetent. I took my grandmother there because she had been feeling ill for about 2 weeks and wouldn't tell us because she didn't want us to worry. As soon as we found out, however, we immediately took her to the emergency room at silver cross, which ended up being a terrible mistake. After waiting over 2 hours, the doctor finally saw us. They ran some tests, concluded she had pneumonia and sent us home with a prescription for antibiotics. After about 2 weeks of taking the antibiotics, not only did my grandmother not feel any better, she actually felt worse. Upon finding this out, I decided to take her to Loyola. After waiting only 25 mins, they called my grandmother in to see the doctor. We told him what was going on and he ran some tests. After waitingfor only about an hour, the doctor came in with the results, which were not good. It turned out my grandmother had leukemia. Thankfully though, we caught it in enough time, she started treatment right away and she is now in full remission. Now, I'm not a doctor but from what I understand, leukemia is a sickness that can be easily diagnosed by running a few simple tests. In fact it's so easy to diagnose, that even a first or second year med student should be able to diagnose it with relative ease. The fact that an experienced doctor at a brand new hospital could miss it is completely unacceptable and stands as a testament to the widespread incompetence that is pervasive at silvercross. If you really care about your family and actually want them to survive any illness that might befall them, please take my advice and do not take them to silver cross. I understand doctors are human and make mistakes, but when it comes to something like a person's life, doctors should be double and triple checking their work, and mistakes like that are unacceptable and just should not happen. It could have cost my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent to the emergency room there yesterday. Long wait time. Was treated horribly by some of the staff. Sense of apathy from some of the staff. Some of those whom I spoke to did not listen well to what I was telling them. Even though a doctor signed off on my reports - I never saw a doctor just a physician's assistant & other staff. Also, some of the staff were slightly racist when they spoke with me. One would think that the staff taking blood pressure would know how to take it correctly. On the discharge form online they wrote/typed that I "refused to get my vitals taken and left." The person taking the vitals did not appear to know how to take them... I did not refuse. I think that some of the staff there need to review how to correctly use a blood pressure cuff if they are unable to accurately do so. She put the blood pressure cuff in the wrong spot & said "Oh, that's not working, let me try the other arm." I would highly suggest that some of the staff review the proper way to take vitals (including blood pressure with a cuff), if they are unsure of how to do so. I finally left after how I was treated after speaking with one of the physician's assistants there ... She did not really listen & acted like she did not believe me when I was talking. I realized that they would not help me & would only waste my time & charge me for various other unnecessary procedures because they do not appear to know what they are doing. One of the staff who was taking my vitals also asked if I "spoke English," assuming that because of how I was dressed that I did not know how to speak English. I would not recommend them & suggest that someone investigates some of the staff who work there for racism & apathy towards certain patients; or at the very least provide them with more training so that they may do a better job...
