On Monday, December 16, 2024, I was scheduled for a spinal treatment with Dr. Jakovich at New Ulm Medical Center. When I met Dr. Jakovich earlier this year, I felt extremely comfortable. Since our first appointment, I have been telling everyone about my experience with Dr. Jakovich, specifically how great it felt to finally be seen and heard as it relates to my pain. Most recently, I was offered an appointment with an osteopathic nurse. I declined and chose to return to Dr. Jakovich for the spinal treatment citing how pleased I have been with his treatment. When I scheduled my appointment for December 16th I told the scheduler that I would not need a driver, as I have had three shots before, and usually read until I feel well enough to drive myself home. My guess is that my message was relayed to Dr. Jakovich and staff. At the beginning of my appointment, the x-ray technician randomly stated, "So I guess you don't have anyone to take you home.” After her comment, Dr. Jakovich immediately crossed his arms over his chest and said, "If you don't have a driver I'm not doing the procedure." I asked him why, as I’ve never had a driver and didn’t intend to leave immediately after the procedure. Dr. Jakovich loudly indicated, "Because I don't want you to go out there and kill a child!” I was stunned. He continued to berate me, with reminders that it was a spinal treatment, and I could leave the hospital “and go kill a child." I flinched the second time he callously remarked that I would leave “and go kill” anyone. His remarks, tone, and attitude were extremely disrespectful. I informed him that I had no intention on “killing” anyone. There are many ways Dr. Jakovich could have expressed his concern without stating multiple times in an accusatory tone the potential to “leave and go kill a child.” I would have even been fine with him canceling the appointment that I made two weeks prior, as I told the scheduler that I didn’t have a driver. However, Dr. Jakovich kept my appointment and used the opportunity to humiliate me in front of staff. His behavior served as a reminder that he is not the only rehabilitation specialist in Minnesota. And while I like my new PCP, my recent experience with Dr. Jakovich has resulted in a search for new providers outside of the Allina...
Read moreI will start by saying I am a paraplegic, I recently went in by ambulance because I was experiencing extremely painful sensations in parts of my body that I do not typically have any sensations in whatsoever. I have been having a lot of bladder issues recently so I thought maybe that is what was going on just on a new level. I get to the hospital and they observe my left leg being extremely swollen as well as my right being swollen too just not to the degree of my left. They did X-rays and determined that I had completely broken both my Tibia and fibula in my left leg. They had me pretty heavily sedated due to the pain I was in when they decided it would be best to place my leg in a hard cast with no further measures taken to stabilize the tibia and fibula. They also completely disregarded the fact that I had a pressure ulcer on my heel that the hard cast prevented me from doing daily cares for. Well fast forward two weeks and the bones had began to heal improperly and the sore on my heal has now tripled in size and is just mere centimeters from exposing the bone. People with spinal cord injuries suffer from a condition called autonomic dysreflexia when in pain or needing to pass urine or have a bowel movement. This condition can be deadly due to increased BP and decreased heart rate and a laundry list of other symptoms. When I was brought into the ER my blood pressure was 189/112 and I can assure you they were in no hurry to bring those numbers down but more focused on telling me I needed to calm down. It’s next to impossible to calm down when you know your vitals are in ranges that cause stroke, heart attack, seizure and aneurysms. I ended up being transferred to Minneapolis where my leg was essentially re broken so it could be reset properly with titanium hardware to hold it in place. The orthopedic surgeon here at this hospital was absolutely shocked and quite frankly P/O when I told him the entire story. I will say that they are pretty good for smaller health issues but when dealing with very complex issues they hesitate to transfer to larger more qualified hospitals. They like to try to keep you there if at all possible even if they aren’t equipped to meet your...
Read moreHorrible service! Moved to sleepy eye about 3 yrs ago! Started to continue care at new ulm medical center due to multiple conditions like fibromyalgia Chronic pain and other issues that have been brought up to multiple Dr's. Like having new symptoms, heart palpitations, continuous headaches, being dizzy on a daily basis amongst many other... because I have fibro, I've been told it's just that and I need to relax and I have anxiety or stress, to wich I referred to therapy. And I did! Begged them for test and not to just brush it under the rug, but Dr's refused as if they paid out of their own pocket. Recently after finally having one of the OB Dr's listen to one of my issues they agreed to proceed with surgery and while doing preop. I requested to be tested again because of a series of questions that could have risks if not taken in consideration during surgery. I was diagnosed with TB. Also have a stuff going on with heart and lungs, that had to be checked out before surgery! If I had not pushed for it, and asked for such surgery the test I needed would have never happened! I had asked 3 yr multiple Dr's to please do more testing and just got told no. Or it was all in my head and stress. Surgery has not happened. Keeps getting pushed because of their lack of professionalism, if I don't call they just don't get things moving! I understand Dr's are busy and stuff happens 24/7. I grew up with my mom being the director of the department of surgery in a much bigger city and hospital and she was a OBGYN too. But have never seen such negligence and incompetence.not just talking for myself but my kids too. Also the treatment you get when they think you are ignorant VS when you happen to mention your entire family is in the medical field changes drastically. And That should...
