*CAUTION* DO NOT CONSIDER PURCHASING GRAVE SITES FROM CEDAR HILL CEMETERY. The cemetery has been in Central Ohio news for 2 months, and social media. The community is outraged at the change in tradition after 89 years, New management has forced parents of children to strip their graves of any ornaments around the monuments, as well as other grieving families For those that could not afford a headstone, they have now been told their babies need to lay in an unmarked grave Decorations signifying their resting place during the warm months have been prohibited. . Further community scandals include... -desecration of the American flag, which were found in trash barrels and in the dirt and exposed on local media . -People's ornaments stolen andfound in the dumpster, after the cemetery denied knowing what happened to them, - Foot high grass and weeds overgrowing monuments on Mother's Day. - families being made promises that if they buy a lot, they can decorate as has been for the last half century at least. And now, suddenly being told by new management that anything found around a grave monument will be thrown away without notice. - the new superintendent has been accused by citizens of Newark of lying to both them directly and city council, in an attempt to conceal misdeeds. The people that have already made the mistake of burying their loved ones here, are speaking about lawsuits to have their family members moved to a cemetery that practices respect for the dead, and the living. People were crying as they were forced to strip the graves of their children and family members of ornamentation, borders, and solar lights. Claims of maintenance issues were proven false by the public after providing the cemetery with solutions. Cemetery management and the mayor of Newark would not respond to the outrage; Citizens have commented that they would not bury their dog in that cemetery, now that it has become a place of desecration and disrespect. Buyer remorse is ever present due to new management feeling that they can dictate how people should grieve after 89 years of tradition. 1,3, or 5 years from now, your loved ones resting place can be ordered to be changed at the whim of cemetery management. Hundreds of people expressing shock and anger at the overgrown, unkept condition this management allowed on a heartfelt day of grieving. There are other fine cemeteries in this area that have kept a consistent culture since their beginning. Please consider them for your loved ones. Cedar Hill has ordered graves to be stripped of mementos that show people come and actively grieve, after a half century of selling plots based on a warm, respectable environment, and the ability to leave a. Things seemed to be fine until the new superintendent was hired and no decorations were permitted. And apparently no mowing or weeding was permitted by the grounds staff. I wish I would have chosen a different cemetery for my loved ones but I was going on the information provided when the plots were purchased

Beautiful old cemetery that could be kept up a bit better, there was some trash and a lot of grass clippings covering headstones, some of the monuments are up into tree limbs while others aren't in place or have fallen over. Other than the visible neglect, it is a beautiful old cemetery to walk around.

I prefer zero stars but I had to press 1. New management (Chance) at cedar hill removed my young sons angel, baby deer and his favorite matchbox cars (2) off his tomb stone and cut down the hostas (small ones on each side of tomb) without telling me it was happening!! I had no warning of them changing rules that have been there for the last 100 years!! Chance (female manager) tells me there were signs posted while totally ignoring me when I asked her "why" they did it. I kept my son's graveside clean and free of weeds and his items up on the tomb shelf. I live in another town and can only get to newark every few months. She told me they didn't remove anything from my son's tomb stone. She lied!! Told me if the items were up on the tomb that the wind must have blown them away. HA HA! Those items have been on his tomb stone since 2004 when he passed!!! She then proceeds to tell me she wasn't changing any rules of the cemetery so I asked her why other grieving parents and loved ones were so upset. She tells me no one is upset. LIED AGAIN! Grieving loved ones now can't enjoy sitting with their child or loved one without looking at empty tombs with no memory of their favorite toy, flower or flag. Then she tells me i can put artificial flowers on his stone BUT only during certain months. Does she not realize artificial flowers are UGLY??!!!!?? She then tells me the cemetery will look "better & more professional" and people will be happier going there to walk the cemetery without tombs having items on them. Are the people walking, complaining, even though they're not visiting loved ones? I don't know who would complain about a grieving parent placing their child's toy or a flower on our grandparents tomb. I do not recommend burying your loved one at Cedar Hill Cemetery unless you want to be governed on what you can/cannot do by the mayor of Newark, the councilmen and the new manager!!! It's a shame because my ancestors are buried there, dating back to the early 1800's and that's why I chose to bury my son there too. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!!!!! Too bad the cemetery is now a barren desert...

I was at the cemetery on Sunday, May 21st to add plants to 3 grave sites. I have several family members buried here and have been maintaining their graves for over 30 years. I have never seen the cemetery look so bad. It looked like a 5-year-old child had mowed the grass. Many of the stones were covered with so much grass that you could not read the names. There were large patches of grass that were not mowed and thick sections of grass clippings everywhere. How could management allow the cemetery to look this bad? Do the lawnmowers not have bags anymore? I am embarrassed to live in a City that treats its deceased residents like this and many are also veterans. To throw grass everywhere and cover up the gravestones so that you can’t see the name is so disrespectful. Everyone living in Newark should be upset. Cedar Hill used to be well kept and you felt good that your family members were there. I think they need to stop policing the artificial decorations and clean up the mess they have made. Hire someone who knows how to...
