Lucy’s — Local services in Newbury

We are longtime summer vacationers on Plum Island so while not full time locals, practically. We were so excited for a proper coffee shop. This is not that. This is grab and go baked goods and drip coffee and the 4x markup makes it not worth it. Got one iced coffee, a small juice and a water for $15! Over 20 years we have watched food establishments in this location struggle to find their footing and I’m afraid this one will struggle, too. On our way off-island my husband popped by and struggled to park, noticing several spots taken up by what seemed like the owner in a massive truck that had been there most open days and folks working there. He mentioned it and was told the shop doesn’t care to provide parking bc they hope to only cater to locals. I would not have written a review if that had not been said to him. Missed opportunity. Was so looking forward to trying out Lucy’s and very disappointed. No espresso, lattes, etc. only drip coffee and ice coffee, there are better options at the Cottage for that. I was really looking Olive’s coffee drinks, which I love, but Lucy’s is just overpriced for bakery and grab and go. Picked up a scone and muffin for $15, good but not worth the price. Scone was massive, not what you want when you are heading to the beach, would have much preferred half of it (or even a quarter of it!) for half the price. There’s also no menu board or anything, so hard to know the options without asking and then you have to ask what the price is, kinda strange. We live on the island part of the year and are really hoping Lucy’s buys an espresso machine, posts a menu, and scale portions and pricing to what people at...

The donuts are amazing here. The pastries, great. Didn't get to drink any coffee or tea but my husband said his coffee was good. Breakfast sandwiches were on a brioche type roll instead of an English and made all the difference. There's sandwiches to go and meats and cheeses along with fruit cups if you need to stop in and grab something before going to the end of the island to fish, or off island.
