Our beautiful baby daughter was just born here on May 25th just before midnight. So thankful for the talented expert staff of doctors and nurses in the birth center here who were so kind, cordial and professional.

Every time I've been to AJH Newburyport, Mass. as a patient no one ever come to clean my room well I was there having babies twice, The lady that was supposed to clean my room never did at all and would sit on the other bed and watch soap opera instead of cleaning 🧼 I got staff infection and my I. V. BAG would be empty of the medication I was to have and my I. V. Would be leaking and blood coming out of it multiple times from the I.V. being empty and drawing blood out of the vein. The monitors were never working right from the beginning of my stay there . So I reported the lady that was supposed to be cleaning my room. I reported the nurses for not keeping up with my I. V. and keeping them clean and changing them and supposed to be having my Medicines on a daily basis , the doctor that did my first C-section left the after birth in me and caused multiple infections and cut me back open while I was lying in bed without any nurse present and no medicines and put drains in my C-section to drain the infections and the doctor didn't tell the nurses what he was doing to me that day, so when the nurse came in the next day to check on me she saw the drains and asked who did this I told her that it was my doctor, that was the first time I was in the maternity ward! Second time having a baby things went better than the first time !! I was in the emergency room for an overnight stay and they were getting me a room upstairs but that never happened on November 24 and the emergency room nurses where ruff and unpleasant and rude during the 2 day stay and no one ever came to clean the floors and the nurses never picked up what they dropped on the floor , I told the nurse that I have my own Medicines with me and wanted to know if I could take them like usual and certain times she said yes that's fine, then come midnight and a change of nures, the other nurse took away my medications and said I can't take them without a doctor approval, I told her that the doctor is going to approve it and they were waiting for the pharmacy to deliver my medications ! So she took my meds and said she was putting them in safe deposit boxes overnight? I told her I need them to take tonight and at certain times ! I look out and see my meds sitting on the corner of their desk without supervision and no one is looking after them either! I told another nurse to bring them back to me so I can take them! She said they are waiting for the pharmacy to bring my meds to me? I suffered all night long without my meds and couldn't go to sleep, I only got 2 hours of sleep that night. So the next morning I went and got them back and started them! The next day another nurse said they want to keep me again overnight for more tests and more meds and I said No Friggin Way unless they get a room like they were to do yesterday ? She said they don't have a room yet and I would have to stay in the emergency room again unless they get a room ! I said No Friggin Way I'm leaving, Boy she didn't like that and called the doctor that was taking care of me last night and told her I was leaving! They tried to convince me to stay again I said No! Then I asked for my food I ordered in the morning and nurse said I can't have it !!??? I said look I haven't eaten since yesterday and I'm starving, so the nurse got me a sandwich that had been sitting around for a while And no drink ??? I said what happened to the food I ordered and she couldn't answer me so I said I want everything I ordered this morning and my insurance is paying for it Too! She did bring me a drink and nothing more!!?? And told me I had to wait in the waiting room and eat and wait for my ride to come and she wanted to clean the room up and didn't want to wait for me to leave! I was SO PISSED AND STRESSED AND COULDN'T WAIT TO GET OUT OF THERE!! PATIENT'S NEED TO KEEP AN EYE ON THEMSELVES AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO YOU!! BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE FOR DAM SURE! VERY BAD SERVICE NO MATTER WHAT DEPT YOU GO TO OR IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM OR IN A ROOM!! GOOD...

traumatic experience as a kid who was sent here in my middle school years. witnessed awful mistreatment of other kids and sometimes i was scared for my life because of the workers instead of myself. this place made me worse. if you have a kid that needs mental help, i beg of you not to send them here. i still have nightmares of this place. also, funny addition, one time one of the psychologists they had me sit down with tried convincing me that dogs have no feelings and only respond to pain stimuli and don't truly love you. odd and bizarre experience. told me that my parents were abusive despite me not having said that and the fact that my parents are not abusive, i assume to keep me there longer 'for my safety'. its been years since middle school, i am a high school graduate now, and i still struggle with night terrors of this place. would give negative stars if i could. choose another hospital.

edit: almost a year later and 20 likes. if you're someone who went here and experienced the worst, i hope that you got out alright. i went when i was in middle school, i am now 21 and doing well healing. sadly, there are not a lot of psych wards out there for children that treat them well. but there's still hope. keep fighting, go to group therapies! you're not alone in this fight, stay strong.

there's plenty of horrible things i remember from anna jacques. they told me and my parents conflicting stories. they told them that i had violent outbursts, but they told ME that my parents were creating an unsafe living environment. i am a shy, depressed low-energy kid. there was no way i was having violent outbursts. they threatened to take blankets away. they often threw kids into padded rooms regardless of if they were acting out or just merely crying. they'd question me in the most bizarre ways and come to the worst conclusions for something as trivial as not making eye contact. the workers weren't even good at keeping the children from self harming, as they'd supply us with breakable plastic caps and erasers that the kids would treat like currency, trading back and forth.

going to sleep to the sounds of kids banging their heads against walls and screaming, isolated from anyone you know and only able to contact the outside world via an awkward wall phone session with anyone who has the number is such a crazy take on what is meant to be a healing experience. like oh yes, i most definitely wanted to watch my peers get slapped and forcefully sedated! that sounds like the perfect medicine for me! and to hear that my parents had considered breaking me out, to save their daughter from quack doctors. yikes. you parents and guardians are going to need...

Worst hospital ever! First and last visit! 3 hours for a simple X-ray because they only have fax as system in 2023. The drama continued after the exam, they added the X-ray images in a cd and gave to me! I asked if they can send it by email and the answer was NO! I drove to Boston with the cd and my doctor said: I don’t have a cd drive or the program to see the images. No body advise you about this process and I waisted a day of work for nothing.

After that I drove my wife to the ER and here is the story of another terrible experience with this hospital:

I am extremely disappointed with the care we received at the Anna Jaques Hospital ER in Newburyport. My wife was experiencing chest pain and difficulty breathing, yet the level of urgency and efficiency we encountered was severely lacking.

We arrived at 1:45 AM and took 40 min to see a front desk lady and instead of call a doctor she required signatures and manage paperwork. Finally got admitted by another staff member that came to check the her vitals, yet no doctor had even introduced themselves at this point.

At 3AM, she was sent for a chest X-ray and returned and kept waiting. Throughout this time, she continued to experience chest pain and difficulty breathing, yet she was simply left waiting without any real attention.

By 3:30 still no doctor had come to examine her, and we had no information on what was happening. Finally, at 4:00 AM— the doctor arrived. He briefly examined her, mentioned that it “might” be pneumonia, and reassured us that it was not a heart-related issue. While it was somewhat comforting to hear that, the lack of urgency and clarity in her diagnosis was frustrating.

After waiting another hour, Susanne was finally given pain medication and discharged with a prescription for pneumonia treatment. This was unacceptable for an emergency situation. Despite the ER appearing calm, the front desk insisted they were busy—yet it took far too long for any real care to be administered. Delays like this could have been dangerous, given her symptoms. If this is how urgent cases are handled at Anna Jaques Hospital, I am deeply concerned for the well-being of other patients who may require immediate attention.

I hope management takes this complaint seriously and works on improving the responsiveness, communication, and overall efficiency of their emergency care. This was an incredibly frustrating and stressful experience, and we deserve better.

After a week the bill arrived: $14,000 dollars from the hospital and $1200 dollars for the doctor fee.

Can...
