I don't think the cormorant is necessarily to my tastes. The French fries are small and incredibly greasy. The milkshakes are very liquidy, so if you like a thick milkshake they are not for you. As I said, if you like greasy almost fair-style fries and british-style milkshakes this could be your thing, but I'm not a fan.
The burgers are ok, but mine was a bit bland. Someone in my group got a chicken sandwich that looked good, so I won't speak to their other sandwiches. The space can get kind of loud and the wait staff are not super friendly. Last time there were bugs in my water. I did alert the staff and I was not given a new glass.
This part I could have misread, but the menus seems to state that if you are a couple splitting a meal, they charge you extra to split it. For a meal costing upwards of 15$ this just seems a bit ridiculous. They also claim to pay a liveable wage on their website (which don't get me wrong, is a nice thought), but don't have this stated clearly at the restaurant. Thus they still expect tips like any other place, which feels a bit disingenuous.

Read moreEvery visit to The Cormorant has all been outstanding. Even though it's a new restaurant, The Cormorant doesn't fall into the trappings of being "THE new restaurant". It feels welcoming, comfortable, with the right amount of paint worn off the the edges, like it's celebrating it's 10th year in business, not it's 10th week. The food is creative, flavorful, and plenty. The staff is well trained, friendly, and attentive. The atmosphere is fun, bright, and a little kitschy in all the right ways. The ice-cream shakes (both boozy and not) are fantastic. Admittedly, I haven't tried any desserts yet because I'm always too full at the end of my meal, but they look great. The only draw back is the wait to get a table. It's a small restaurant and everything is cooked to order. Since opening, the line has been out the door most nights. Must be something about that part of Merrimac Street. However, it's certainly worth the wait. I look forward working my way through the entire menu. So far, the Cuban, Schnitzel, Naan-chos, Mushroom Melt Burger, Buttermilk Chicken Sando, French Fries, and Onion Rings...
Read moreThe Cormorant is a hidden gem! This small, welcoming hamburger joint near Cashman Park really impressed us. One of the owners personally greeted us at the door, sat us, brought us water, and took the time to explain the specials and menu items—which gave the whole experience a warm, personal touch.
I went with the build-your-own burger and my friend had the Black & Blue Double Stack. Both were cooked perfectly and incredibly juicy. I especially appreciated the option to get a side salad with homemade dressing instead of fries—fresh, flavorful, and a nice lighter option.
They also offer a tempting selection of homemade desserts, but we were too full to try them this time. We’re already planning to come back when the weather warms up to enjoy burgers and milkshakes outside....
