Peter’s Rock has been a constant in my life since moving to North Haven 30 plus years ago. My late husband and I hiked it and then would bring along our son after he was born. My son and I hike it most days of the week still. Seeing it brought back to it’s original purpose is wonderful. We see so many cool things as we hike. It is great for mind and soul to be out in nature. This North Haven owned park is definitely a treasure. Many people bring their dogs as this is a dog friendly park and trails. I love running into them along many hikes. This is a hiking park and there is at least one review that was critical of Peter’s Rock because they couldn’t ride mountain bikes there. It has always been a town ordinance that they were not permitted on the property. Come on out and see how wonderful this place is. Bring a snack or lunch and enjoy it at one of the many...
Read moreThis park had been cleaned up and great trails put in over the past year or so. Trails were thoughtfully laid, expertly crafted, and most of the litter removed. My family and friends got to visit once (before it was closed to ALL BIKES including toddlers on striders) to enjoy the fresh air and peaceful forest, then choose a local restaurant for a bite before driving home. Access has been revoked by the town and it’s not clear why they are asking visitors to stay away. My riding group was planning to come to visit next month and we are retooling our plans now that PR is closed. It's a shame for ct recreation and the local businesses that a bylaw from 1977 closed this park down to All BICYCLES. The MTB community in CT does a great job respecting the trails, the land, and visiting the local restaurants, bars, and stores that are local...
Read moreA beautiful place, this park was long neglected by the Town of North Haven. Then a coalition of mountain bikers and the long-established Peter's Rock Association began to build new, environmentally sound trails and to maintain them, something the Town had not done in the previous 20 years. BUT suddenly, the Town of North Haven banned mountain bikes, and those trails will surely begin to deteriorate, particularly since ATVs are still all over the trails, tearing them up. Instead of working with a large group of interested citizens who had restored a neglected park, the Town chose to kill off that...
