Fish Hook Charters — Local services in North Myrtle Beach

Disappointing and unprofessional to say the least! My family does a charter every year at the beach and it would have been more enjoyable to burn six one hundred dollar bills then go out on this boat with this captain!

The water was so rough Captain Holden offered to reduce the trip to a half day, then contacted the owner and offered to reduce the trip but still give us 30 minutes of shark fishing. Then when we returned to the dock he still charged us 600$ and we had already paid an 80$ deposit so our trip was cut short and we were still charged full price. We only left a tip because of the deck hand Hunter. The owner did end up getting us our 80$ deposit back once he saw we were visibly upset back at the dock. Even with that we were still charged 75$ over the half day we were told our trip was being reduced to. I said something to Holden and he replied well we still burnt the gas of a 7hr trip and I gave you 30 extra minutes…. Completely contradictory of what he told us when on the water and offered cutting the trip short and being charged 1/2 day rate! I was so beyond mad I had to go to the truck before I completely lost my cool!

To start the water was so rough any decent charter would have made you aware and give the option to reschedule! The captain couldn’t keep us where we needed to be to fish do to getting pushed around by 3-4ft waves, by the time our lines hit bottom he would tell us to pull up so he could reposition. All the captain talked about was his hot date for the night and bragged about how he’s the youngest captain around. Let me tell you this young man has nothing to truly brag about! We asked to get pictures with the couple fish we caught and were ignored, then I clearly got his attention and he said just wait till they’re dead and that the memories will last longer then the pictures so the kids didn’t get a single picture with the 3 fish they caught.

The fishing wasn’t good but we completely understand that can’t alway be controlled but the environment the captain is responsible for creating on his boat especially when the bite is slow is completely in his control.

I’ll say again Captain Holden was beyond unprofessional and only spoke of his date, getting drunk and how he is the youngest captain in the area. I have had better conversations with pets before…

I will say his deck hand Hunter was the one bright spot, even though Holden continuously spoke down to him and cut him down in front of us. Hunter kept a smile on his face and an upbeat attitude in the midst of a terrible day on the water. He worked hard to keep up with all of the poles while Holden watched, sat on his phone...

READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH. We had a great time despite the horrible conditions. Brandon and Captain Ronnie were very personable and down to earth. The boat we were on was very old and in shoddy condition. This wasn't as important to our group as much as the overall fishing experience. After a few hours of no fish we decided to try our hand at shark fishing. I caught a 5 ft blacktop and my buddy caught a spinner. The day was cut short due to the conditions and we were given a pro-rated discount. Now the reason for the poor review. We booked a second trip for a couple weeks later with captain ronnie. We were told to call back the day before the trip to confirm and to talk about the upcoming conditions and what type of fish we could expect to see. I made sure to clearly ask twice if I was booked for the next day. I told Ronnie my name, he looked in the book and said, "yes you are on for tomorrow." "The weather looks good and the fish should be biting" Again to be VERY CLEAR, I told him my name, made sure to mention that we were coming from Wilmington, and confirmed that we were booked for tomorrow and at which specific time to show up. He looked in his book twice and told me twice that everything was on and come on down. We showed up the next day at the confirmed and appointed time and he was nowhere to be found. We tried calling him and got a hold of him 14 minutes later.

The whole reason for this bad review is that not only did Ronnie lie he tried to say I was lying! The bad part for him is that my phone records all conversations!! There is no dispute. He either got mixed up or lied outright and then he tried to blame me for his mistake. That's why he gets no respect from me. That's not something any reputable person would do. I even played the phone call back for all in my party. I told him that I recorded the call and I could understand how he could have gotten mixed up but that didnt change his continuing to try to make it my fault.

That's why I am writing this bad review. He was caught in either a mistake or lie and instead of apologizing he made it worse by trying to blame me!!!Let this serve as a lesson for anyone who reads this ; You never know when you are being recorded so make sure you are either not lying or have all your facts straight before throwing out accusations or try to make up stories which contradicts the facts. Shame on you...

I searched and called every charter at myrtle beach. Chose fish hook thinking they were best suited for me and my family. But never received a call about my charter reservation, even tho I texted captain Ronnie several times for weeks, UNTIL night before trip. Then I was told that I was being switched too a different boat and captain, other than what I was promised. The morning I arrived, I was 15 minutes late. I asked captain gregg for permission too board, and as I boarded I apologized for being late. Cap gregg made a smart mouthed comment that he didn't care, that it was my dime, and that he was just about too go home. My wife was very offended and wanted too leave right then. I convinced her too continue with trip hoping all would be good. Then as we started out too sea, I was informed that we would be back a hour earlier than was scheduled. I said that was not the agreement with Captain Ronnie and was not told in advance. Captain gregg replied rudely that it was not his problem and shrugged his shoulders and turned his back too me. My wife was so offended that she would not, participate in none of the fishing activities for the trip. Too make story short, we caught only some bait fish that crew kept for there next client, even tho we was told we couldn't keep them. I paid as agreed and also tipped $100. , but the crew was rude and not helpful. Ignored all our questions and avoided all my attempts at graceful communication. Did not provide the boat, captain, or amenities I was promised. Trust me when I say that all charter fishing trips at myrtle beach is a waste of UR money and time. I have tried them all, and hated every trip. I love fishing, but save UR money and time ND don't go at myrtle beach with any of them or fish hook charters. I will never ever go again. My MOney would have been better spent on a homeless drug addict, than on this chartered fishing trip.
