Jumonville is a very special place. Over the years it's gone from Union soldiers hospital to orphanage to Sunday school training facility to summer church camp to now a major retreat center. Rare is the individual who can go to a camp or retreat at Jumonville and come back down the mountain unchanged.
The facility has a number of cabins for use. There is a chapel across the road, and a main lodge. Each building has its own name, and the main lodge's name is Washington. There is a dining hall, a dedicated meeting building, a library and museum. There is also a very nice building now called The Inn at Jumonville. We used to call it the Dean's Cabin, but it has been upgraded and renovated. There are more cabins at Epworth Heights, which is just above the main camp.
Of course, two of the main features are the Green Cathedral, and the giant Cross of Christ at the top of the mountain. Jumonville sits adjacent to a national park, and is part of the larger Fort Necessity battlefield, where the French and Indian war started in the 18th century.
There is also a swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, a soccer field, a baseball or softball field, and a frisbee golf course. Newer to Jumonville is the ropes course, and indoor and outdoor climbing walls.
There is so much to do and see at jumonville, this review would become far too long if I were to describe it all. Let me just say that if you want a life changing experience, I recommend Jumonville in the strongest possible terms. If there were 6 stars, I would give...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur daughter has been to Jumonville many times. However⦠this time was a complete disaster. Her specific camp was very small- 2 boys and two girls. They really should have cancelled or combined with another camp. On the second day, we got a message from our daughter saying she wanted to come home and that the counselor and kids were making fun of her and saying inappropriate thingsā for example, āThey couldnāt pay me enough to come back as counselor if youāre here again.ā Really???? Christian camp???? When the program director finally called back with the counselor they didnāt seem concerned. They seemed bothered that we would call with an issueā¦. But wait.. thereās more. Our daughter did not receive her medication throughout the week. She was also told not to call homeā¦. She could make the week. Also, it seems that activities were cut down and there was improper planning and way too much free time. Iād really like to know what my money was actually spent on. And at least request a refund. So now, I will spend the weekend compiling emails for the board members and directors so they can all receive this information directly first hand. Disappointed....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI just came back from a 8 day retreat that I hosted at Jumonville Retreat Center for over 25 people from around the country. The staff were so friendly and caring throughout the entire process. They were exceptional and treated everyone very well. They really went beyond expectations to accommodate our stay. For example, one day their gift shop was closed and one of the people in our group needed something. They said that they would open it up, but they didn't have that item. An hour later they gave that item to the person. They when out to get it for that person. They had to leave and go buy it somewhere with their own money. We didn't ask them to do it. They...
