Dan & Whit's General Store — Local services in Norwich

After watching the CBS, On The Road segment a few weeks ago, and because we were visiting the area; my wife and I stopped in at Dan &Whit’s General Store. We wanted to show our support, as we always try to do with mom and pop stores. When we entered, we were immediately greeted with “good mornings” by the two lovely ladies at the registers. As we walked around we were amazed at how big this store is and I really mean that…from the outside it looks like a regular little store but that is a big understatement. Why, well because after greeting the owner in his back little office and after telling him we saw his story on CBS he told us with a big smile to keep wondering further back into the store we were done yet. When we did, it was like stepping into a whole different store full of hardware merchandise. It’s true what they say (if they don’t have it you don’t need it), lol. For us it was worth stepping back in time, we purchased some Christmas and food items. Go and pay them a visit if you are in the area and lend them...

I typically love this store and enjoy stopping for lunch, but today I have never been more disrespected and shocked at the way the lady at the deli spoke to me. I understood she was cooking for lunch, but I even offered to come back in 15 min and I was still responded with such a rude comment that I had to walk out of the store and take my business else where. I feel horrible for posting this but I'm a business owner myself and couldn't imagine treating a customer the way she talked to me. Just be aware of this women. Again I do love this store, but this was so uncomfortable and disrespectful. Hardware depot always gets a 5 star...

On July 14th 1997 I purchased a Garden Way cart at Dan & Whit's. It was our anniversary, that's how I remember! The hardware helper offered to assemble it at no charge. That's how Dan & Whit's is. In the past many years we've made emergency runs for: floor leveling compound--they had it. A bladder to force-flush blocked plumbing--they had that. New D-rings to rescue my hanging plant basket-they had that. The only place I can find Jacob's Cattle dried beans for baked beans....One year I decided to do all my Christmas shopping at Dan & Whit's. I'd rather give them my business than fight the madness on Rte...
