Harvest Market — Local services in Novato

Not laid out very well, a little expensive (which is totally understandable in a smaller grocery store) and the selection is pretty limited. But the thing that annoys me the most is that the service is awkwardly unfriendly. To me, that is. I don't live here, I just happen to pass through Novato pretty often so I stop here for snacks and drinks and, while the cashiers are usually pretty chatty with the people in front of me who are probably from the neighborhood (based on their conversation) they literally do not even say hello to me about 75% of the time. I've taken to saying "hello!" in an overly cheerful voice with a maniacal grin just to see them react, but I'll probably just stop coming here. I also just heard an overlong conversation today between my white cashier and the white customer in front of me about a woman who overreacted, in their opinion about something, with one of them saying "I mean, the two workers here, they're Mexican and they know we're joking!" I don't know the full story, but it was enough for me to not want to spend any more money here. They need...

Recently bought a case of beef ribs that the butcher said were “off the prime”- they looked pretty scrawny when we got them but she “discounted” the price since we were buying the whole case, and even though I was concerned about how little meat seemed to be on them she kept saying how good they were. Since we didn’t have the time to go to a good butcher we bought them. Unfortunately the ribs were horrible- hardly any meat, tough and no flavor. We served these for a party and we’re so embarrassed. We have cooked ribs many times do we know how to cook them. After the party we checked at Safeway they had the exact same ribs for $1/lb less. Will definitely not buy meat from them again. They will say anything to get you to buy from them. Unfortunately we have leftovers, and 3 uncooked racks in the freezer- wish we still had dogs we could...

Don’t understand the people giving this place such good reviews, I’m sorry. Your expectations for a prices, quality & options of products must be incredibly low or this is the ONLY store you have EVER shopped in. I only come here when I’m in a huge rush since it’s the closest one to me at this moment but sometimes I feel mocked by the “hARvEST tHe sAviNgs!” signs that are a dollar or more expensive than anywhere else. I much rather shop at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s when I can. I can get the same products & produce there which is fresher & cheaper (& yes, WHOLE FOODS is cheaper!).
