This was a fantastic tour! We were picked up at our hotel about 8:45 am by an air conditioned Mercedes van that and there were 12 of us after 3 more pickups. Noi was a wonderful driver and purveyor of information about the history before the Pearl Harbor attack and even played an audio recording that set us in the right frame of mind for the visit. As we arrived at Pearl Harbor and parked, she gave us great detail about how we needed to use our time. She told us the layout...that bathrooms and snack bar would be on our left along with 2 buildings that were museums. She told us that our tickets were for the 10:30 boat over to the memorial. She also emphasized that we would be in the middle line with reservations, not the far right line which is for standbys that apparently bought their ticket when they arrived that day. She said the best order was to see the movie and then get in the reservation line for the boat around 10:15. She handed us a clear plastic bag with Pearl harbor on it with a bottle of water inside of it, and gave us our printed tickets and off we went! The movie had been on for about 5 minutes when we walked in so we saw the majority of it. The boat over and walk through of the memorial took about 25 minutes. When we got off the boat we walked through the 2 museums and went in the souvenir shop for about 10 minutes. That put us back at our pick up point right on time! We then drove through the Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery and did drivebys of the historical places downtown. She gave all kinds of information about the local economy, price of housing, local trees, the light rail that has still not been completed, etc. The tour was about 4 hours. If you want to spend more time reading everything that is in the Pearl Harbor museums, walk the grounds and read more historical markers, etc. this tour will not allow that. You should book one that is a few hours longer. For us, the 4 hours was perfect! We got back to our hotel around 12:45 pm and walked to a nice place for lunch. We highly...
Read moreWe signed up for the Pearl Harbor USS Arizona Memorial, small group Tour, as it was a practical way to be able to fit it into our schedule. The other alternative was to try via the stand-by line onsite.
Our guide, Rick, picked us up at our hotel in Waikiki; there were a total of 6 of us in the mini-van. On our way to the USS Arizona Memorial Site and Pearl Harbor museums, we went to Punchbowl National Military Cemetery. We also learned a lot about the morning of the attack and other history leading to the attack.
Rick brought us onto the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center property and explaining all the details regarding the timing to see the film and take the boat ride to the USS Arizona Memorial. He then had to leave us, as outside tour guides are not permitted on the rest of onsite tour.
Everything was very clearly marked and National Park Service Rangers clearly announced which line was for the film and which was for the next ticketed time for the boat ride to the Memorial. Well explained and managed.
The visit to the Memorial and being on the Memorial, above the remains of the USS Arizona is a very moving experience, knowing that 1177 men died there on December 7, 1941.
After meeting up with Rick again, he drove back into Waikiki and dropped each couple at our hotels. All in all, a very well run and worthwhile tour. Rick is a very personable guide and has lived most of his life in...
Read moreAloha,
We had a very good experience with Noelani visiting Pearl Harbor. She was on time, very polite and knowledgeable, and her vehicle was spotless and comfortable. She explained how to visit the site with a timetable a couple of times, so that we would be able to see everything in the allotted time. We enjoyed driving by the Iolani Palace and seeing the statue of the King. We would have liked to have stopped there for a few minutes to get a better look, but I didn't ask and she didn't offer. Maybe that's something you can offer to others in the future to make your tour better than the others.
We also appreciated Noelani's sharing of information about life in Hawaii today including the challenges people face because it is so expensive. I would recommend this tour to others as it was easy, hassle-free and we saw just what was expected.
