We had one of the most disappointing golf experiences we’ve ever had at this course, all because of the Marshall. From the start, he profiled our family and spent the entire round watching us — literally hiding in the trees and following us from hole to hole. The group behind us was two holes back, yet he kept pressuring us to hurry up, which made the round stressful and unenjoyable.
At one point, he yelled at us about supposed golf cart rules, demanding we stay 15 feet away from something — though there were no signs anywhere explaining this. When my husband calmly pointed that out, the Marshall got visibly angry and nearly threw a “rule book” at us. We are middle-aged adults simply enjoying a round of golf with our 16- and 17-year-old sons. Being yelled at and treated this way by staff was completely inappropriate and unacceptable.
This was meant to be a fun family outing, but instead it turned into a hostile and uncomfortable experience. With four players and two carts, they lost our business for good. I will never come back here, and I’ll be sure to share this experience with others so they know what to expect.
I actually stopped playing at hole 5 because it felt very uncomfortable to golf with this angry man watching us from the bushes.
11am tee time for four on 8/17. Adding this so the managers know who I’m...
Read moreWent to the driving range and used their short game area. I'll hit up their par 3 course at some point and will update this review.
Tons of potential here. Lots of hitting bays with over half of them covered and heated. Mats were either the plush dark green ones or the light green ones that give you a tighter lie. Range balls are just okay. Most were starting to show their age; they also throw in some very, very old found golf balls that should be tossed away. Not a lot of great targets and you can't see how far a ball is traveling after 200 yards unless you're at the very far right side of the range. They are also having trouble growing grass out on the range. It's a little pricey for what you get, but I also understand the area where Oak Marr is located.
Practice green is tucked behind the right side of the range. Wonderful things about it are it's a big area, there are designated chipping and putting areas, and it's free. Bad side is just how slow and bumpy the green is even on the putting only side. I know it's early in the season but I stopped putting after a couple of strokes.
Again a ton of potential here. If they were to hire a really good greenskeeper and a crew he/she can work with, this driving range could...
Read moreOak Marr has been a part of my golf journey from the very beginning, and it holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I first picked up the game, learned the basics, and built the foundation of my swing. The instructors here are knowledgeable, patient, and make the game approachable whether you're just starting out or fine-tuning your technique.
Even after all these years, I still go back regularly to practice at the range. The facility is well-kept, the atmosphere is focused but relaxed, and the covered, lighted bays make it perfect year-round—whether you’re grinding on your game or just enjoying a quiet solo session.
That said, Oak Marr does get very busy, especially in the late afternoons and weekends. The best time to go is early in the morning—less crowded, peaceful, and a much better rhythm for focused practice.
The automated ball system is smooth and the overall layout makes it one of the most convenient ranges in Northern Virginia. Whether I’m working on my long game or dialing in short irons, this place always delivers.
It’s not just a driving range—it’s where my love for the game was built. If you’re serious about improving or just looking for a great place to swing, I highly...
