Let's start with the fact that I'm from Memphis. I only mention this because I don't know if this is how things are done here in Florida. First off, to call this a meat market is a stretch. This is a "chop shop." Every cut of meat, except chicken, was cut up into smaller pieces (very small), instead of the whole piece or bigger pieces. The ribs... cut up! (even by the cases) The neckbones... cut up! Turkey necks... cut up! Hog maws ... cut up! The cuts are the smallest I've ever seen. They're overly priced, and I paid $6 for one pack of turkey medallions, yes medallions, because that's how it's cut up. There was actually a turkey neck and a half, cut up in that package at best. It was my first visit and last. Based off the reviews, I visited this place, but save your money and time. The best thing about this place was the "butcher" behind the counter. That's because he was very helpful in telling us which meat was which. The meat was frozen so hard and dark, at times we couldn't make out what was what. The cashier and I'm assuming the owner, watched us like we were about to snatch the meat and run. As a visitor, I wasn't impressed, Big Midget has big prices, and small meat. If all you need is a "little" meat to season something else and don't mid thr prices, this is your place. Otherwise, find...

Ocala has some impressive, small grocery shopping options. This store is deceiving fro. Outside and upon entry as it appears to be a convenience store. But persevere! Off to one side is a meat selection that makes this a trip worth taking. If you want rabbit, quail, breakfast-cut pork chops, goat, or - I'm not kidding - blue crab, this place has the best price I've found in town so far. There is also a good frozen veggie selection. Not much fresh produce to speak of, but you'll find potatoes and onions, so putting together a meal is easy, even if this is your only stop. Spice prices are really good. Most dry goods are very reasonably...
Read moreOriginally I went to Ocala meat and produce but after being treated so rudely by everyone there I came to big midget. Everyone here was so nice and helpful, the meat man and cashiers actually had a conversation with me about random things instead of just throwing my meat to me like at the other store. Their employees took their time and explained how to cook the meat and what would go well with it. Plus their store doesn't stink like the other meat store across the street, it actually smells...
