We were met by a patron of Okolona when arriving at the cemetery. She watches for and greets visitors from all over the United States making a mental note of where they came. Revisiting it with the next visitor. She is very humbled that so many come from so far away to visit men that have died so long ago. As for my experience, it too is Very Humbling. I was deeply moved as I thought of these young men from all over the south that gave their lives for what they believed. However, it saddened me tho, to see some flags(including the Mississippi flag) was tattered. I felt ashamed that our soldiers had to lay under their flag tattered and torn. But overall the grave sites were well kept. Beautiful memorials with the history frozen in place. It touched my to see someone placed flags and memorials to several graves from Texas and Arkansas. Would love to think by family members. We hope to visit again someday but if we never pass this way again may GOD bless the people of Okolona for taking care of those lost so...
