Great experience with the shoreline East Connecticut rail. This was my first time taking the Shore line East CT Rail . A friend of mine came up with this idea for my birthday and it added to what was a great day!
We drove to the Old saybrook location, free parking. Check in was quick and I do want to note that we arrived by 10:00 a.m. for the train which was soon after, I think 10:49 a.m.
It was right around $5 for each of us one way and we paid for the round trip - which you can come back at any time during that day. So $20 for both of us.
It was maybe a 20 minute ride and we ended up in Guilford which was our planned stop for the day.
The walk from the train station to the shoreline of Guilford was about 15 minutes, we were not in a rush and we were waiting for a restaurant to open so we could have lunch.
We walked on the shore for about 40 minutes and then took a walk that was maybe 7 minutes to The Mooring.
The train was clean and the attendants were attentive.
We came back on the train that was right before 5:00 p.m. and again maybe a 20 minute ride.
This was really a great idea and could be a lot of fun for kids. Because the ride is not too long depending on your destination.
A great experience and I will definitely do this again.

The original Amtrak Connecticut River Bridge was built in 1907 and is currently being replaced because it is nearing the end of its useful life and its condition causes delays for both rail and maritime traffic. The new, $1.3 billion bridge will improve reliability, safety, and speed, and its replacement project officially broke ground in...
