If you need an emergency jewelry repair or alteration and money is NO object, then maybe this would be a good place to go... Otherwise, you're better off going somewhere else. The woman who attended to me was very rude multiple times and, honestly, treated me like I was stupid. My experience here is detailed below.
I'd received a really simple ring, just a band and a stone, that was a bit too loose on me. My previous jeweler closed up shop, so I was thinking about having Express Jewelry Repair take my ring down a quarter of a size because of their good reviews.
On Thursday, June 22 at about 1 pm: I was out running errands and called to see how long the resize would take. A woman answered the phone and asked me, verbatim, "What kind of ring is it?" I told her it was a simple ring, just the band and stone - nothing complex. Then she snaps "NO! What kind of metal, is it gold? Is it Silver, sterling silver? What? What is it?" Then she tells me it would be about two hours, but that she wouldn't have a jeweler in until 2. I told her that was fine and that I'd drop the ring off in about 30 minutes. Then she actually yelled at me "OKAY, BUT I DON'T HAVE A JEWELER UNTIL 2!!" I said "I understand this, but does the jeweler need to be in for me to drop the ring off, even if I know what I need done?" "NO, BUT IT STILL WON'T BE DONE UNTIL 4" She was very rude and kept repeating herself. At this point, I was seriously considering going elsewhere, but I was going to be in the area anyway. Whatever. So, I wait until 2 pm before going in.
When I get in store, I tell the woman behind the counter that I would like me ring taken in a quarter of a size to a 4.5. She gives me a 4.5 band to try on and it's PERFECT. My fingers are very small, but my knuckles are large. My 4.75 ring was sliding up to the widest part of my knuckles and twisting way too easily. I'd been wearing it for a week and had been through PMS and had bloated a bit because of a salty meal. I knew exactly what I needed.
So, I tell her the 4.5 is perfect and that's what I need. She says "You realize you're asking the jeweler to take this down a hair's width, right? It's barely anything." I tell her yes, I know, but it's what I need. She says "Well, out bodies...they tend to puff up when we exercise or eat too much salt so this may get too small".
THIS was the part that really annoyed me. I was pretty offended that she was trying to talk me out of resizing it, but I was also really annoyed by her lecture on water retention. I understand that she likely had good intentions, but I have my Bachelor's in biology and am a graduate student for anatomy. I'm pretty familiar with physiology, that's why I wore the ring for a week before resizing it (like I'd already told her).
Eventually she relents, looks down at a little chart and tells me it'll be $78. SEVENTY EIGHT DOLLARS to take a ring in a quarter of a size. I walked out. She didn't even try to explain whether that was contingent upon completion time or anything. I went to Legacy up the road and got it done in 2 days for $30.
I get that this place offers speedy service, but outside of necessity it's just not worth the cost or the...
Read more**Update: The owner Mike reached out to me and was kind enough to let me know he spoke to his staff about the situation and offered to refund the difference, to make the cost $126. I declined because I just wanted him to speak to his staff about doing the right thing, especially with this kind of stuff. You never know the story behind many of these jewelry pieces and the sentimental value they have. So thanks Mike for taking the time to correct concerns!
The work on my ring looks great. I have no doubt they do a great job with their work. My issue is the customer service and lack of accountability. I went in to get an estimate and the girl working the counter told me it would be $126 for the first ring. I asked about the second ring and she looked it over and said both can be done for $126. I asked again for clarification if it was $126 total for both and she said yes. When I went to pick up my rings, they were quoting me about $269. My issue is not the price, because I know labor deserves to be compensated for. My issue is that they were not honest upfront about the price, so I could plan better to afford the pricing. Instead Iâm forced to shell out money I wasnât prepared to spend to get my ring back, because someone wasnât honest or cared enough to clarify pricing. She was too busy pushing to get business by already writing up the ticket before even completely answering all my questions. I decided it would be fine despite that because they seem to have overall good reviews, but guess not. I prefer to support smaller businesses but how can I want to continue to do that when people do...
Read moreEDIT!! The owner, Mike, reached out and let me know that this was not their normal quality of work and offered to fix the rings at no cost. When i brought them back in, he was super appologetic and said that instead of just trying to fix the repair that he wanted to go ahead and replace the entire bottom shank on all three things and fix the welding on the rose gold ring. I've gotten the rings back now, and they look perfect! The bands are smooth and round. They are even thicker than before to add more value to the rings. I can not thank Mike enough for everything he did to make it right! I would definitely bring my jewelry back here simply because i know Mike will always make it right for his customers.
Original: I brought 3 rings here to have resized since they no longer fit after having a baby. 2 of the rings had been worn/altered, and the third was brand new and had been ordered in the wrong size. While the pricing and timeline were reasonable, I felt the quality and care put into my rings were less than average. All the rings had bumps or flat spots on the bottom where you could feel the addition had been made. They also were not in line and made a swerve that was inconsistent with the original shape. While it may not look like a big difference, it is definitely noticeable while wearing and concerns me about the possibility of my rings being compromised and prone to damage in these areas. I would not bring my...
