Excellent hike still open to the public under this pandemic thing. Need to get a permit from May to September to get to the peak via Devil's slide. Before that, just need to register and drop it in a box in the park ranger station in Idyllwild town. Get there early. Tahquitz Peak Trail, is well maintained and offers a moderately challenging way to get to the summit and visit the USFS fire lookout. Great hike! It was overcast so we didn't get the spectacular view from the top. If was cold and windy at the top in early October, so bring a light jacket. Get your pass at the Ranger Station before going up. There is some fire damage along the way including some at the fire lookout cabin at the top.
