We recently hosted an important cultural event at the Bayou and unfortunately, our experience was far from smooth due to poor coordination and unprofessional staff conduct. Unprofessional Behavior from Staff: During the rehearsal, the auditorium manager JD was rude and dismissive toward parents, the teacher, and musicians. When we explained how meaningful this event was to our families, JD responded, “For me, it’s just a Tuesday.” That level of disregard and lack of empathy was incredibly disappointing and disrespectful. Stage Decoration Issues: Despite working with a decorator who has handled multiple events at this venue, JD raised repeated objections about our setup. Parents were forced to leave the venue twice to buy a specific type of string JD insisted on, even though the decor was well within typical guidelines. As a result, our stage setup was only completed minutes before the event began—causing unnecessary stress despite renting the space from 10 AM. Poor Venue Support: We had to ask several times for basic things like placing tables outside the auditorium. JD also arrived 30 minutes late on the day of the event, with no notice or explanation, delaying our schedule further. Technical Oversight: The projector, which was supposed to be lifted at 4 PM (as agreed during rehearsal), was not handled. Our guru had to request it live from the stage, and even then, it wasn’t done promptly. This avoidable error delayed our program by 15 minutes. Lighting and Safety Concerns: Atrium 1—rented for dinner and photos—had no lights on after the event. Guests were left to crowd into Atrium 2. Additionally, the lights leading up to the auditorium were off, making it difficult and unsafe for guests to navigate.
While the Bayou Theater has potential as a venue, our experience was marred by poor communication, lack of professionalism, and logistical failures. We hope this feedback helps improve...
