Don't trust the installers still out 5k and have a rinai tankless unit just sitting in a box in my basement after there recommended installers sacry heating and air came out with no uniforms, company trucks, no parts, was taking along time ie days due to not having parts and the rag in the vent pipe, and the fact stuff seemed sketchy was a sign that I should call the big guys in my area that are licensed in water heaters. We told him that we didn't want him to install the furnace we also bought, becuase the review we read on his business and the work weve seen him do, we agreed we would pay for the tankless heater and install. As soon as a actual plumber came to inspect there work they capped off the gas supply because it should have never been on due to non proper installation it was against the law for him to leave the unit running they way the rinnai recommend installer installed it he said we were lucky no one got cordon monoxide poisoning so in the middle of winter months with no water heat we just paid the local Professional to install a reg water tank because multiple heating and plumbing guys said the way the gas line and the way our house is the tankless system would have never worked right! so yeah have a uninstalled rinnai heater just sitting and out 5k for the installation work that we paid to have a another Professional plumbing and heating guy to rip out THIS SACRY HEATING AND AIR WAS A RECOMMEND INSTALLER ON THE...
Read moreThe warranty is worthless! I have a Rinnai RL94i tankless water heater. For four years and with annual maintenance, it worked well. The Rinnai comes with a 5 year warranty on most parts and a 12 year warranty on the heat exchanger which is the primary component. The heat exchanger on my unit had a leak in one of the copper tubes. My plumber contacted Rinnai and was told that the heat exchanger would need to be replaced and the part was indeed under warranty. However, the warranty does not include labor. Replacing the heat exchanger requires a certified plumber to take the entire unit apart and rebuild the unit with the new heat exchanger. I have had multiple plumbers estimate this will take 8-12 hours using a workbench. This means the unit has to be taken back to the shop. The total labor cost will be somewhere between $1800-$2500 to repair a unit with a retail price of $1500. It’s considerably less expensive to replace the unit than pay the labor costs to repair it even when factoring in the installation labor costs. This means that the warranty is worthless because the Rinnai will insist on repair rather than replacement of a bad unit which will cost the customer more than...
Read moreI own a new home - built in 2018 - that had a Rinnai tankless that kept failing. I spent over $1,000 servicing it and, when it passed the 5 year warranty period, the servicing department informed that the heat exchanged (designed where it can't be cleaned annually) needed replacement. I bought the replacement part and spent another $800 trying to remove and install the part; however, the gaskets and screws couldn't be removed so it was a waste of time. Rinnai servicing told me 0ver the phone that they'd credit $200 toward a new unit (no choice, as it's the only brand that would fit in space in exterior brick wall), so I said yes. After buying the new unit, Rinnai never paid the $200. I've own 9 rental properties for my livelihood, and this was the worst "brand" experience...
