I came here with my son, my friend and her son Tuesday 10/21. They are in 2nd grade and since i know RTS does toddler classes during the day occasionally, I called Monday to see if they were doing open play and if there was any classes going on between 10-12 pm. I know āFinally, a place you never have to say sorryā or whatever it is, is what RTS stands for however, since our boys are a little older, as a courtesy I like to make sure they can go and play freely without needing to worry about bumping into very small children. Whoever I spoke to Monday, told me NO itās only open play Tuesday morning and no classes, there was no need to worry. In the past on two occasions, I had called ahead and because there was toddler music class or whatever class, we opted to stay home because my sons are older elementary age and I would never want them to injury another child much smaller than them.
When we arrived Iām not sure who was sitting at the front desk, but she was younger, and not very friendly. I noticed there was about 5 or 6 young children maybe 2 years old but no older than 3 years running around unattended. For about 10 minutes i had to keep catching my son and other kids who werent even my kid on the swings and other equipment to prevent these young unattended toddlers from getting hit. Then it finally happened.. I was pushing my son on the green pod/cocoon swing, he was barely going far out or fast. Then out of nowhere one of little boys, the most adorable little African american boy (Iām only being very precise so hopefully the mother is aware of this because who knows if she was told about The incident) came running through with another little boy right into the pathway of our pod swing and before I could stop my son he was hit. This poor boy went FLYING as if he was hit by a car straight onto his back and Iām pretty sure he hit the back of his head as he landed. I picked the boy up off the ground, hugged him and held him, making sure he was okay and finally out of frustration yelled out, Is anyone watching their children?!? Whos child is this?? Also, this was the second time he and this other little boy came running through the middle of the swing section but I managed to catch my swinging son the first time to avoid hurting them. It wasnt until I yelled out that the employee at the desk got up casually, walked over and said oh, heās from our morning daycare program or whatever she called it. Then I see this other woman who I assume is running this daycare sitting on the mat by the rockwall on her phone. She came over, grabbed the child and then took the kids back into the room.
I CANNOT fathom how you can let 5-6 young toddlers run around unattended when there is clearly bigger kids who are 5+ years older than them. I grew up in parkwood so i always loved the idea of RTS being in my hometown. It really is a shame because of the concept is wonderful, but the equipment is on top of each other and the building is just too small for all of that equipment. I really wish I knew the mother so I could let her know i really tried to prevent this from happening multiple times. Im an empath, so i still to this day feel horribly for that sweet little boy. I really tried to keep them all safe whenever they came by us. For once, I wanted to enjoy the short time I had one on one with my son without any worries, and it was anything but..
Because both my sons have autism, we donāt really get out much. I simply wanted my boy to have a fun morning with his friend. If i would have known there was a class, we never would have came. I wish i never...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve never been to this facility. I was excited to bring my daughter for a birthday party. My daughter had a great time, all the kids followed directions, played well together. The space wasnāt too big or small. The space accommodated the small party very well. Unfortunately, the staff working was not friendly, stated if the kids take a bite of food thatās it, no more playing. With that being said, there was no food brought into the play area. All directions by adults and children were followed. As a parent, im aware that most children take a bite of food, sip of water, run and play. Also as a parent itās our job to make sure their hands are clean while returning to activity, which we did. The staff member working stated sheād penalize the children had they left the room if she saw them eating. Odd behavior for a grown adult. & how would you explain that to children? A 5 year old? A one year old? Approach is everything especially to a paying customer and potential future costumers. To be quite honest, if youāre concerned about your play area being clean Iād recommend a really good deep clean and not just a broom that the staff member used. I saw literal dirt on the toys by the grocery station and on the floor. Tis the season for cold, flu, hand/foot/mouth and everything in between. Overall I think positive attitudes could really be beneficial for a childrenās place like this. If I was the one hosting this event, spending money to decorate, not be allowed to come in a half hour prior as promised, I would definitely be more upset and asking to speak to the owner. Hopefully moving forward the team meetings are redirected to satisfying the customers or at least...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe Rock the Spectrum is an absolute gem! Our kindergarten through second-grade autistic students had an incredible field trip experience at this gym designed specifically for special needs kids. From the moment we arrived, the environment was welcoming, safe, and thoughtfully created to address a wide range of sensory needs.
The variety of equipment was fantastic ā everything from trampolines and climbing structures to calming swings and sensory-rich toys. It was wonderful to see our students explore and engage at their own pace, finding activities that truly resonated with them. Some students joyfully bounced and climbed, releasing energy in a supportive space, while others found comfort and regulation in the quiet corners and gentle movements of the swings.
What truly stood out was the understanding and acceptance displayed by the staff. They were patient, kind, and attuned to the individual needs of each child, offering gentle guidance and encouragement without pressure. It was a joy to witness our students feeling so comfortable and free to be themselves. We Rock the Spectrum provided a truly inclusive and enriching experience that catered perfectly to our students' sensory and emotional needs. This field trip was a huge success, and we highly recommend it to other educators...
