I wrote this review when we vacationed back at the end of September...
We stayed at Above the Falls and unfortunately, my husband and I cannot recommend it or the resort. On the first hour we were greeted with a scorpion on the floor, which was alive. I guess my husband and I were the lucky ones, considering my cousin and her children were greeted on their arrival, with one in their bed. Our room is the kingsize bed in the basement and the mattress is AWFUL. I have never had so much back pain sleeping. The mattress is literally caved-in in certain spots which makes it uncomfortable to sleep on, we literally slept with our heads at the foot board to try to make it bearable, but after 7 nights of sleeping on this “mattress” I am currently awake at 1:30am unable to sleep in excruciating pain. Also getting in and out of this bed is awful, my husband and I wake each other up every time we get up during the night. There is also a very loud buzzing noise in our room, for 7 days I was unable to figure out where it was coming from. I finally discovered it is the refrigerator, all the way upstairs. How annoying. Also, if you are the lucky one to room in this room, enjoy hearing EVERYTHING. It’s right above the kitchen so every footstep made, you get to hear. Also, the bedroom door doesn’t latch so you cannot lock it for any privacy, all you have to do is push on the door to open it, no handle necessary!!!!
In the 8 days we were here, the grass on the properties on our street was NEVER mowed. Granted, the last 2 days before departure it rained, but they should be planning their yard work around the weather, most professional companies do. Some of the areas of grass are taller than our Yorkie breed dog.
This is supposed to be a dog friendly cabin and it is NOT. It’s by far pet friendly. There is literally no where for your dogs to go to the bathroom, not one area of flat land at this cabin. So in order for your dogs to use the restroom, you must walk them to at least the next property, if not further. This became very inconvenient since one of our dogs is OLD and doesn’t walk that frequently. So if you want to walk your dog every time it needs to use the restroom, this is the cabin for you. It was very irritating trying to get our old dog to walk up the driveway, which is on a hill, and be quick enough to get to the next property to potty during pouring down rain!
Everything looks updated in the pictures online, but as others have stated, looks are deceiving. The dishwasher in the cabin has a turn dial, I literally haven’t seen one of these in over 10 years. And the washer and dryer are awful. They can barely hold anything and the dryer takes 180+ minutes to dry anything, stuff was still coming out damp! Some of the rocking chairs and porch swing are in desperate need of painting. The couches are fake leather and have no support so you are basically sitting on the base of the couch when sitting on it. Family said the upstairs jet tub leaked when it was used.
As for the grounds, they are ok I guess. The Putt-putt course is old, some areas are very worn and the actual course feels like it may cave in. Not much of a “park”. And we never went fishing from the stocked pond because the day we looked around at everything, there appeared to be a poisonous snake in the pond. We warned the other guests with kids who were fishing.
The resort provides you with nothing. They give you 1 dishwasher tab and you get 2 towels for each bathroom but must constantly launder them yourself in order for them to be clean. The final day of departure my family wanted to make sure nothing was left behind. While checking under the bed to be sure nothing was pushed under there, a bunch of dead bugs and dust were discovered.
It’s now Saturday and we are beyond ready to check out. I feel extreme guilt because I Googled for cabins in this area and sold my family on this place, something I am deeply regretting. Both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are very cheesy tourist cities. Once in a life time visit is enough! Stay at this resort...
Read moreWe held our 10 year Family reunion at the Little Valley Mountain Resort in late July 2025. We picked this particular Resort because I had stayed there late in 2008 and our Daughter & Her Family early in 2020. Both stays were nothing short of AWESOME!
Things sure have changed over the years and not for the better. We had a big bottle of Jack fall from the refrigerator and hit squarely on the glass top stove, cracking the stove top. I went down to the office and informed them of the accident. I also claimed responsibility for the damage and was prepared to reimburse them for replacing the stove top. The lady at the front desk asked for my name & phone number. She assured me that they would research getting the part replaced and would inform me as to how much I owed them. She also told me that she thought the stove had recently been replaced in the last few years.
Turns out the stove was actually manufactured in May of 2012. So, 13 years old definitely at the end of it’s useful life. Along with the age. The LED clock on the control panel had several lights burned out. Soo it was really difficult to tell what time it was. The bottom storage drawer on the stove was also broken. It looked all cattywampus and when I pulled it out to see why. I realized that the left drawer guide was all busted to hell.
We researched the cost of replacing the stove top. The top would be $200 - 250. A whole new stove would be $650 - 1K. Depending on where you purchased them. Imagine our surprise when my Mother called me and informed me that the Resort had charged Her credit card for ~$770 for a brand-new stove. No phone calls, to Her or me.
Now all those minor inconveniences came to a head.
The Cabin – The water had a very sulfury stench to it. Nobody wanted to use the cabin water. We went through 3 cases of water, for cooking and personal hygiene. No hair dryer. We had 3 females in our cabin. All with long hair. They had washed their hair and then the search for a hair dryer began. Thru calls to other cabins. We found out all had hair dryers, but we did not. The knife set in the kitchen was so dull. My Wife had to purchase Her own knife(s). The spa - My Wife went to use it and the foul stench that hit Her when She lifted the cover caused Her to close it as quickly as possible. The spa was running pretty much 24-7 and very LOUD. Our room was right next to it and for some reason every morning at 0300 it would shut-off for about 5 minutes and then restart. Waking us up every morning at 0300. The Grandkids bunk beds had no sheets on them. Everyone is getting ready to retire for the evening and we find ourselves trying to put sheets on bunk beds that are walled in on 3 sides. Which added another ½ hour to our day. The hand-held shower in our room did not work. Very hard for a disabled person to take a shower with just a fixed shower head. Stove issue (read above).
The Amenities - The miniature golf course greens were covered with rocks, tree debris, & leaves. We were afraid it was going to collapse through parts of the elevated course. The pool was green the whole time we were there. The sign of an, unhealthy and improbably balanced pool. We did not want to risk the chance of getting a skin rash, red eye or urinary tract / ear infections. Compared to our stay in 2008. The beautiful mountain views are all gone. Everything has been allowed to overgrow. Instead of the beautiful mountain views, now all you can see are trees.
We will NEVER stay here again. Y’all’s focus seems to have changed from a relationship base to a transactional model. What we experienced was “Let’s do as little as possible and charge them as much as possible.” We will be challenging the credit card charge for a brand-new stove. Still willing to pay $200.00 for the stove top, that we cracked. We should NOT be held solely responsible, for a 13 year old...
Read moreWe spent four nights at The Little Valley Mountain Resort in the Snowshoe Lodge cabin in May of 2023!
First of all; There is nothing little about this resort. The grounds are expansive. The views are panoramic. The cabins are situated on generous 1 acre lots. This place is Mega Great! Our stay was above and beyond anything we ever imagined. We could not have loved it MORE.
We drove up to our cabin on spectacular winding roads surrounded by mother natures most majestic landscapes.
The word cabin is a misnomer. This was a large, high ceiling home, designed with warm honey colored wood ceilings and floors with huge windows everywhere! Breathtaking vistas of the glorious Great Smoky Mountains are visible from both inside and outside the cabin.
We were thrilled as we walked into this gorgeous appointed cabin with high end leather sofas, dining table, stone fireplace, comfy chairs, sofa pillows, rocking chairs and artwork everywhere. There was a huge hot tub on the main balcony, bubbling away, waiting for us too.
Before we moved our luggage in, we sank into the leather couch and gazed up at the amazing windows in the cathedral ceiling! Then we stepped outside to the breezy, shaded deck and breathed in the Smoky Mountains air and marveled at the view. The views just knocked our socks off. We were in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains and we could see all the ridges and mountaintops for miles from our two beautiful decks on both floors.
My husband’s first look out our balcony delighted him as he saw 3 beautiful black bears roaming 40 feet beneath us on the forest floor. People drive many miles and hours just to view these majestic animals in the Smoky Mountain National Park! Don’t worry…We never encountered them face to face. The birds-eye view of the Tennessee hills from the Snowshoe Lodge was the best.
The kitchen is complete with every thing you would ever need. The furniture is beautiful & perfectly arranged too. The inside of our cabin smelled like a breath of fresh mountain air, not the scent from a can of Glade. Every room was immaculately clean & fresh. The 3 bedrooms and bathrooms were large with generous amounts of space for luggage and clothing.
Little Valley Mountain Resort grounds are meticulously kept. It is a secluded jewel with 300 plus acres of grassy knolls, hiking trails, waterfall streams, a beautiful pool and so many amenities I cannot list them all. The entire resort was a feast for our eyes amongst these verdant woodland hills.
Little Valley Mountain Resort is nestled away from the crowds & bustle of town so you can enjoy the serenity of the Smoky mountains. It’s only a short drive to The Smoky Mountain National Park, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
I cannot leave out there is a Par 3 golf course, Putt Putt courses, tennis & pickle ball courts, a lodge and quaint chapel in this gem called Little Valley Mountain Resort. We cannot...
