Excellent Food, Poor Business Etiquette.
We are currently planning our wedding at Canyon Run Ranch, just a few miles from Mrs. B's Catering in downtown Pleasant Hill, OH. We were very impressed with their menu, and their reviews were outstanding, and given the proximity to the venue we thought it was a perfect fit. We emailed for more information, and received copies of the menus that were on the website, as well as some pricing information and an offer to be included in the next tasting. Tastings (at least when we did it during COVID shutdowns) were set up like a takeout pickup. Included were 4 meals (1 main, 2 sides each), a sample of dinner rolls with plain butter packets, cutlery and napkins, and a folder with printouts of the menus, which were slightly different from the ones we had been emailed and seen online. You could then take your sample wherever you wanted, which was pretty cool! We drove to the river walk in Dayton and have a picnic in the park for dinner. The food was Excellent! We were very impressed with the quality. The chicken was very moist and tender, and the sides had a lot of flavor.
We were very pleased with the tasting, and ready to talk further. We replied to the email saying we were ready for next steps, and received a reply to call in to place our $500 deposit and sign the contract. I called once and received no answer, so I called again in a day or two in case it was a day they were out of office. When I called, she requested first that I put down the down payment, which I did. I asked her if she could send me a proposal, to which she then started to ask for details of the wedding. When I told her the venue, she started to sound negative, and told me that we weren't allowed to have paper plates there, and had to use disposable wooden plates instead. When I asked why we could not have real plates and cutlery, she huffed and said that "it wasn't possible there". She said she would email me the contract to sign and return in 6 weeks, said we would talk again a month out from the wedding, and then said goodbye.
The contract I received was very messy and unorganized. It was difficult to read, and had many grammatical and layout errors, which only added to our confusion. We replied with a list of questions from the contract for clarification, and again asked for a proposal. She replied with answers to our questions, and offered that proposals are only made when requested. We replied that we were interested in 3 entrees, 4 appetizer stations, real silverware, cake cutting, and additional sides. The proposal we received was very confusing given what we had received previously from them. Many of the items we requested had been changed, with a note that it either wasn't possible, or no note at all. The pricing was also very inconsistent with the previous pricing information we had been sent, even accounting for the incorrect guest count in the proposal.
We discussed at length whether or not they were the right fit. We felt rushed into placing our deposit, only to have the rug pulled out from under us. When the deadline to return the contract came we decided to pull out, even if it meant the loss of our deposit. We emailed back saying that we didn't think it was a good fit anymore, and that we would like our deposit back if possible. The reply we received was defensive, telling us that what we had requested wasn't possible, but that they could write up another quote if we wanted. We replied that we firmly felt they weren't a good fit for us, and gave our reasons. The reply we received was aggressive and unprofessional, and only confirmed what we had felt up until that point. They did honor our request for a refund. We sent a thank you with best wishes, and have not heard from them since.
I was very surprised with our experiences from Mrs. B's Catering, especially with their many 5 star reviews. Had they been more professional and open in their correspondence and manner, we would have happily kept them as our caterer.
TL;DR - Great at cooking, not so great...
Read moreMrs. B's catered and bartended our wedding towards the end of September, 2025. From the first time we contacted Mrs. B's Catering, they were friendly, and very responsive. They sent us all the relevant information regarding their offerings, and were patient and very helpful in walking us through the different menu options. We decided to go ahead with a tasting box, and from that moment we were sold. We worked with Sherry to finalize details as the event got closer, and she was a pleasure to talk to each and every time, and both asked and answered any of our questions to make sure every detail was correct. Come the day of the wedding, the staff was on-time, kind, professional, and responsive to our needs. The décor they provided for all of the relevant catering tables was beautiful, and matched perfectly with our other décor's aesthetic. We received multiple comments on how well their tables were put together. We went ahead with BBQ -- buffet style, and everything was absolutely delicious, especially the brisket. The bar ran efficiently, and dinner went smoothly. The staff even put together the bride's plate and made sure to personally deliver her and even a her father a piece of cake. They were very thoughtful and went above and beyond to make sure everyone was well taken care of. Start to finish Mrs. B's did an exceptional job that exceeded our expectations, and I cannot recommend them...
Read moreWe hired Mrs. B's to cater our wedding reception of 165 guests. They cooked a wonderful buffet meal and dessert bar where the guests loved the desserts so much that they flew off the table! We planned this event in about 30 days which is a short turn around time. Sherry in sales was wonderful to work with. With one phone call she was helpful in narrowing down and selecting a menu, offering suggestions for dessert, and answering questions we had about service and pricing. She quickly sent over a quote and as we made changes throughout the next few weeks, she was quick to accommodate those. We had guests that needed gluten free/dairy free/ or vegetarian options and Sherry was sure to accommodate those through an email. The food was delicious and we were grateful they boxed up the leftovers so we could enjoy the delicious meal the cooks prepared again. I commend the staff of Mrs. B's, as when the reception began, the bartender hired separately had a long line for bar drinks. Mrs. B's noticed he needed help and on their own accord, stepped in and helped serve drinks. This is an example of a company that is willing to do the extra to make the event run smooth. Not to mention their food is great and there is a wide selection. Thank you again to Sherry and staff. We loved having you at...
