Silver Glen is a beautiful spring in the Ocala National Forest. It has a day use are that is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. We have picnic tables and grills. There are bear bins for garbage and protection of wildlife. Please do not litter. We have a very strict no alcohol rule that is enforced by our active park staff. You may use floats in the water but not paddles. You can not fish here, we have tons of fish to look at. We rent canoes for $42 per day. Our run goes to Lake George. We have trails including the Yearling Trail, the Lake George Trail and Spring Boils Trail which is a must see spot that leads to really cool new baby springs boiling in the sand. If you come on the weekends we are often crowded and the boats outside the park can be loud and limit canoes. During the week our park is quiet and peaceful. It's perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, hiking, wildlife viewing, bird watching. We have huge areas of native plants and pollinators. This is the site of the largest shell mound found and is a rich archeology site. There is an Indian burial mound. History buffs must visit! Children are safe to swim here, there are shallow and deep spots. The water is 72, degrees year round. The cost to enter is $6.42 per person. We have ample parking but are on weekends sometimes full. No drones are allowed. You must have a wrist band on to prove entry. You can not enter the park from a boat without paying the entry fee. Please respect...
Read moreThis place has really gone downhill since I was a kid. I remember Silver Glen as the best place to go during summer vacation. The water was freezing but we didn't care. Loved hanging out on the wooden steps and feeding the stripped bass some bread. My parents would put some beach chairs in the shallow area, and just lounge in the water, drinking soda or sweet tea while we all played.
Now they've taken away the wooden stairs on the far end. They've fenced up any access to the water except one tiny little spot that they've dumped rocks and some disgusting looking flooring that is not coming apart and tearing. If you really wanted to make a way in that avoided the shells, why did you get rid of the wooden stairs?
They have also made it against the rules to put a beach chairs in the water. Why?! It's a chair designed to go in water. It's metal and plastic, it's not coated in lead paint or anything that would harm the wildlife. They've also made it against the rules to have any beverage or food in the water. So now adults can't be trusted to sit in the shallow area and drink some sweet tea?
My family has been coming here for three generations now to enjoy the springs, and after today's experience there, seeing how they've ruined it and such ridiculous rules, my mother turned to me and said we needed to find a new place to frequent. It's sad how people ruin such a...
Read moreSalt Spings was at full capacity. Found Silver Glen to be open and not yet at full capacity. Finally got a Opportunity to go swimming with my family. Silver Glen was the only Spring we found that wasn't over capacity. The Spring looked open people were driving in and out of the gates. The parking lot was full. Everyone looked around for somewhere to pay a fee and couldn't find anyone. We figured a park Reps must be somewhere working in the area and could talk with them if I there was a problem. Thought maybe it's something to do with Corona Relief. Lots of people are out of work due to this, including my self. There is no phone reception to make any calls in the area to check with anyone. The spring was full of families swimming. Countless boats and even FWC boat police. While walking back to our vehicles there were a few forestry officers in a aggressive mood. Asking for everyone's ID to pass out fines. They locked the Gates and wouldn't let anyone leave. Around 2pm. My brother was fined $130. I said to the officers this seems very strange like a Scam I don't believe I should go alone with this. They said fine we'll happily Triple your fine and keep you as long as we can. With a Caring smile they changed me $490. I believe they unnecessarily took this to the extreme. After locking us in they gave me 3 fines of the Same thing saying fined for being in a...
