It was a wonderful experience and I will take more classes. The owners are very kind and attentive and they know their crafts. I felt that the course fee was an exceptional value for the quality of the instruction, the resources that were provided and the amount of time and attention the instructor dedicated to making sure I understood the lessons and was comfortable with what I was doing. This is not a sit, watch and listen craft and art school - this is hand's on. You get to create what you came to learn. The instructor for my course (who happened to be one of the owners) was passionate about teaching and very accommodating to the class. Signing up was easy. Afterwards I received a registration confirmation, with a workshop reminder the day before class, with additional information to help me prepare and get the most out of the course. You're not going to walk away empty handed, you will learn, create and meet some terrific folks (even if it's just...
Read moreI attended the Intro to Blacksmithing class last night, and I loved it. Shaun, Sylvia, and John ran things very smoothly, even with a full class of smithing newbies. It was informative, fun, physical work, and I registered for another class before leaving. Highly recommended if you're interested in blacksmithing, welding, or woodworking at all, or just want a very different night out! While there are other pictures of the hooks that you make in the Blacksmithing class to teach numerous Blacksmithing techniques in reviews here, I've added mine, too.
The Guild is unique in South Florida for the variety of skills its classes cover, as well as the approach and facility. Memberships are available in addition to classes, so, after some introductory classes, their approach also makes this a part of building the crafting community on top of their...
Read moreMy wife and I took the intro to blacksmithing course at the guild about a year ago and had such a great time that we enrolled in the 2 day intro to knife making course this winter. Over the course of 2 days we transformed a bar of 1095 steel into a chef's knife and a bush knife. We left with homework and are still working on final sanding and handle fit up. We'll be headed back to the guild in a few days to shape the handles and put an edge on our knives. The whole experience was a blast. Shaun and Mike are professionals and very novice freindly. They were there each step of the way to guide and encourage and make sure we didn't screw up too badly. Best part...I got to use a power hammer! Great fun. Very educational. I highly...
