As someone who used to work there, let's get into the details. A whistleblower. We all have those. Kathy Pollock and Jody Moore have been the worst. Kathy has gone higher than the CEO to complain because things at the Y haven't changed, always stating how Sarah Lisenby is doing her job wrong, all the extra financial assistance that's been given, all the write-offs, losing money, etc. Sarah, you're the reason why they have gotten strict on the credit card policy. Kevin, that's why the board was on you, sir. Meanwhile, you have Jody writing an anonymous letter to the board about all the problems at the YMCA and how nothing has changed. Oh, and Jody is good at running deep background checks on people without them knowing. Kathy is aware of her behavior, even putting the charges on the Y card, but covers it up, especially for people of color. Sorry, Q. You were a victim. That's why you didn't get the job when you applied. Staff being high on the job and yet still there working, but according to CEO Kevin, it's ok to have some weed in your system as long as it's not too much; even child care workers, poor staff who are all underpaid and expect them to volunteer and not get paid during events. You get what you pay for; you wonder why no one goes above and beyond while the directors are still making 2-4 grand every paycheck. Well, some, sorry, Sarah. Misty ma'am, if you're not getting trained, please do run when things hit the fan; you're to blame, not the CEO, for improper training. The smartest choice I ever made was walking out of this micromanaged, toxic, hostile environment. I couldn't be any happier. for it to be a Christian nonprofit organization. You should be embarrassed about how it ran. Then you ask yourself why doesn't anyone want to donate to the Y, because the YMCA is burned out with multiple people. Just ask Jody; she did her research on Kevin when he worked at the previous YMCA. And wonder why he is not being liked. Thanks for sharing. Jody Oh, one more thing: parents, don't be putting your kids in child care. The money doesn't go back to your babies; they use it for other stuff but not them....
Read moreAs a South Carolina resident, having my child "enrolled" to the YMCA on Port Arthur TX for her summer vacation with her dad, I am EXTREMELY unpleased with their services. Apparently staff members are not well trained when it comes to enrolling children. My child is 3years old (YMCA in Port Arthur is only licensed to have 5-12 children) was enrolled in their summer camp by one of the staff members. Obviously we asked before we decided to enroll her and we were told that she could go to the summer camp and we had to bring her immunization records pay registration fee (which we did) and she just had to bring a lunch bag every day. One her first day she was rejected because staff members informed us wrong and my 3year old child could not go to the YMCA's summer camp. Now I am in South Carolina having my child with out a day care during the day, having to find a serious day care that does take enrollment seriously. Not only that when I called to ask for a reason on why my child was rejected on her first day their only response was "we refunded the money back". Horrible service, not well trained staff member, most importantly during my phone call never did I hear an apology. At the end I am glad they did not accept her, because if staff is not trained property to take an enrollment application I can only imagine they type of training to care for...
Read moreFacilities were nice, and exercise classes full of friendly people, which is the only reason I’m not giving a 1-star. I had a membership at this YMCA earlier this year. While getting dressed in a private stall inside the women’s locker room, the curtain was opened by a male YMCA employee, who quickly left. As I was l was leaving the locker room, the man was standing just outside the entrance and complimented me on my hair.
I reported this to the lady sitting at the front desk, and she said she would have a word with the employee to make sure the women’s locker room was empty before he entered to clean them. However, both myself and my friend who also frequented the YMCA both saw this same man enter the women’s locker room while we were inside several times after this occurrence. (I should also add that none of these experiences occurred close to closing time, so there was no excuse for the man to be in the women’s locker room for close-out cleaning anyway.) I eventually just gave up my membership because I could never use the locker room after coming from the pool without the fear that this same man would come barging in on me while in the shower or while changing out of my swimsuit.
If it hasn’t yet, something needs to be done about this the ensure women’s privacy and to prevent harassment in what should be...
