This is a Drive In Theater in my home town, now owned by my best friend from childhood, through life, til now. Drive-Ins are getting rare. They're sometimes more trouble than they are worth. But I've seen for myself why my friend continues to take extraordinary care of the place. I've seen the reason that he continues a tradition that corporate theater chains long ago discarded. It's the people. One evening while the sky was still too bright to start the movie, my friend led me to one side of the screen then turned to look up the slope and the vision of cars streaming in, friendly honks and and waves as they found their places. Since the spaces are no longer defined by the posts with the clunky low-fi speakers that weighed pounds (the movie now coming to patrons via very high fidelity FM radio), one could expect disputes but overall people are friendly and cheerful, excited to see and be seen. He said to me "THIS is why I do this". He loves keeping the tradition alive. He is providing a fun, safe form of entertainment for the community. But the reason they are rare is they have to pay their way. So if you want to keep this tradition alive, if you want to share this slice of Americana with your kids, support our last few examples. See a show at the tower drive in in Poteau, Oklahoma. Make a night of it. Heck, make it your vacation. You...
Read moreDrove here from Greenwood AR. It's not too far of a drive at all. The theatre is towards the back of a shopping area, so it can be hard to see the sign if you don't pay attention. We went there on a weekday night so not sure if the front admissions window was supposed to be open or not, however, as we drove towards the back where the movie screen is at, the road became narrow for one way traffic only and no way to back out if there were cars behind us. There was another window back there to pay admission fees. There were also signs everywhere stating to not bring outside food, and to not run the motor whole the movie was playing. Driving into the area to park in front of the screen, it's open and has enough spaces for cars if they became busy. I saw trash/litter on the ground, so they don't go through everyday to pick up trash/litter on the floor. There's enough speakers around the parking area to hear the movie being played and there's a concession stand to buy fountain drinks, popcorn, nachos...the bathrooms are also located in the same building. The women bathroom stall doors are so high that you would feel uncomfortable using the bathroom if there is a line of people waiting. It's a fun activity to do and nice place to visit if you can handle the heat. Adults are $7/each and kids...
Read moreWe enjoyed ourselves but they were wrong to make me pay 20.00 extra just because we had food and drinks in my van. We ate at Burger King before we came to the movies the food that was left over we always save it for when they babies get hungry again because as we all know kids don't eat all at one setting. We had three kids under the age of six plus my daughter and I. It was supposed to be 26.00 for the show but she charged me 46.00. that's just wrong of them to do that to me. I didn't really have the money in the first place to go to the movies but I wanted the kids to get out of the house and enjoy a movie. I also spent well over sixty dollars while there because the kids wanted popcorn ice cream candy and nachos. My complaint is they are so wrong for charging for food I already paid for for my grandkids. They made an assumption that we were bringing that in to eat at the drive-in. They did drink the rest of their drinks Smh they were wrong on so many levels for that. We didn't let that ruin our night. But needed to let y'all know y'all were wrong for charging 20.00 more...
